Inspiring Right at Home CareGiver ‘Braves the Shave’ for Macmillan Cancer Support

Published: 21/07/2022

Our amazing CareGiver Yvonne has bravely shaved her head to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Yvonne Brindley has raised nearly £500 for the charity, to help people affected by cancer and raise awareness of the great support Macmillan carries out.

Surrounded by friends, family and colleagues, Yvonne ‘braved the shave’ at her local pub The Alfred Arms on Tuesday 19th July. Although she was nervous and emotional prior to the shave, she was relieved and proud afterwards. She was inspired by Clients she cares for, many of whom have received cancer treatment, as well as friends and family she has supported in the past too.

Yvonne has always wanted to do something memorable for charity, so grew her hair for four years to support Macmillian and donate her hair to The Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs made of human hair to children who have lost their own as a result of cancer treatment.

After having over 20 inches of hair shaved from her head Yvonne said: “Everyone is affected by cancer at some point in their lives. I have supported friends and Clients through cancer treatment and I know how difficult it can be for them and their loved ones. I hope the money raised will give people going through this trying experience comfort and offer some light at the end of the tunnel.”

Yvonne admits that she still doesn’t recognise herself in the mirror without her hair, but is so pleased she went through with it and hopes it will encourage more people to take part in similar fundraising.

Yvonne has been working as a CareGiver for Right at Home Borehamwood & Watford for nearly three years and was recently promoted to a Team Leader, due to her exceptional commitment to Clients and colleagues.

Jenny Madghachian, Owner of Right at Home Borehamwood & Watford, is extremely impressed with Yvonne’s efforts saying: “Yvonne is always going above and beyond for her Clients and team members. She is passionate and caring and this is just another example of her unwavering kindness. We are so proud to have her on the Right at Home team.”
