A little bit about Deour:

Before joining Right at Home, Deour has always been in a role where she could help others - she spent three years working in a care home, and prior to that, she was a receptionist at a car dealership. Having cared for her grandmother, Deour was inspired to bring her caring nature into her working life... in fact, Deour says, “Changing my career path was the best thing I’ve ever done!”

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

'I saw the role advertisement and appreciated the 1 hour minimum visit as this allows you to give the care and attention the client deserves. '

What does a typical day look like for you?

'My typical day starts with dropping my daughter to school then coming home and checking on my chickens, making time to speak to my sisters and mother, work and then being a mum after school.

What do you enjoy or find most rewarding about your role?

'I enjoy making someone's day a little better each day and being able to assist them to live a happier more independent life.'

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement that you have experienced as a caregiver?

'I have been able to assist people who decline all personal care on a regular basis to have a shower or bath. That to me shows the trust I can build and how I can make a person feel more comfortable with me so I can help them the best I can. '

Do you have any pets? If so, what?

'Yes, I have a dog, chickens, kio fish and a bearded dragon.'.

What’s your hidden talent that (until now) most people don’t know about?

'My caring nature and my ability to help people.'

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?

'Life is a mystery, you never know what is round the corner so enjoy yourself, live more and love more.'
