Big Green Picnic Brings Community Together in Central Wiltshire

A joyful, dementia-friendly community event celebrating connection, inclusion and time outdoors

Published: 31/07/2026

A Warm Welcome for the Community

Right at Home Central Wiltshire was delighted to welcome Clients, families, Carers and members of the local community to our Big Green Picnic, held as part of Dementia Adventure's national initiative celebrating the benefits of spending time outdoors.

The event was created to provide a warm, welcoming and inclusive space where people living with dementia could enjoy meaningful social interaction while taking part in fun, accessible activities. We wanted to create an afternoon that felt relaxed, uplifting and easy to enjoy, while also giving families and carers the chance to spend quality time together in a supportive environment.

Activities for All Ages

Throughout the afternoon, guests enjoyed bingo, storytelling, sensory experiences and our popular Create Your Own Bouquet Bar. There was plenty of laughter and conversation as people joined in at their own pace, with refreshments available throughout the event and a children's play area helping to create a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

The picnic was designed to be intergenerational, and it was lovely to see children, grandchildren, parents and older relatives all enjoying the day together.

Moments of Connection

One of the highlights of the day was seeing conversations flourish between generations. Families, friends and community members came together to share stories, laughter and precious moments, demonstrating the power of connection and inclusion.

It was especially heartwarming to see how naturally people engaged with one another, whether through a shared activity, a conversation over refreshments or simply enjoying the atmosphere of the day.

"It was wonderful to see so many people come together to enjoy such a relaxed and welcoming afternoon. The Big Green Picnic wasn't just about the activities—it was about bringing people together, reducing isolation and creating moments of joy. These connections make a real difference to the wellbeing of people living with dementia, their families and our wider community."
