Celebrating the Pets Who Bring Joy Into Our Lives

During RSPCA Week (15–21 June), we celebrated the wonderful companionship, comfort and happiness that pets bring to people’s everyday lives.

For many of the people we support, pets are much more than animals. They can be an important part of daily routines, providing companionship, comfort and a familiar presence at home.

Whether it’s a loyal dog waiting by the door, a cat curled up beside you or another much-loved companion, the relationship between people and their pets can make a real difference to wellbeing.

As a homecare provider supporting people across Central Wiltshire, we see first-hand how important companionship and connection can be. That’s why we wanted to use RSPCA Week as an opportunity to celebrate these special relationships.

To mark RSPCA Week, we invited our Clients, Carers and office team to share photographs and stories about their beloved pets.

The response was fantastic, with more than 20 wonderful submissions celebrating furry and feathered members of our wider Right at Home family.

Each story gave us a little glimpse into the personalities behind these much-loved companions. To celebrate them, we created our own framed “Paws & Stories” profiles, giving everyone the chance to share the joy their pets bring to everyday life.

One of our favourite stories came from our Operations Manager, Caroline Evans, and her cat Geoffrey.

Caroline adopted Geoffrey when he was just eight weeks old, and he has now been part of her family for seven years. Interestingly, Geoffrey’s relationship with the family’s pet rats didn’t exactly start as a friendship! After initially trying to get to them, following a small nip on the ear, he eventually became their friend — even climbing into their cage during cleaning time! 🐱🐭

Stories like these reminded us just how unique the bond between people and their pets can be.

RSPCA Week was also an opportunity for us to turn our appreciation for animals into practical support.

Our Carers generously donated pet food to help animals in need at the RSPCA Trowbridge Centre.

We were delighted to support their generosity by matching every donation made by our team, helping to double the amount of pet food donated.

A special thank you goes to our Field Care Coordinator, Ellis, who delivered the donations on behalf of the team.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who contributed. Small acts of kindness can make a real difference, and supporting local animal welfare is one of the ways we can care for our wider community.

To round off our RSPCA Week activities, members of our team enjoyed a dog walk at John Coles Park.

It was a lovely opportunity to step away from the office, enjoy some fresh air and spend time together with some very happy four-legged friends.

There were plenty of wagging tails, smiles and conversations along the way — and we’re fairly sure the dogs enjoyed the afternoon just as much as we did!
