A Day to Remember: Our Big Green Picnic in John Coles Park

On Thursday 19^th June, we were delighted to welcome our Clients, CareGivers, families, and friends to John Coles Park in Chippenham for a truly special event – our Big Green Picnic. In the afternoon, the park came alive with sunshine, laughter, and the warm spirit of community.

Local community groups and families came together to host a dementia-friendly Big Green Picnic – a free, inclusive event designed to help people living with dementia, their carers, and loved ones enjoy a joyful day outdoors. The event is part of a nationwide initiative led by Dementia Adventure, and was supported locally by Right at Home Chippenham.

The goal was to offer something a little different – a chance for Clients and local residents to get out into the community, connect with others, and enjoy nature in a setting designed to stimulate the senses and lift the spirits.

Highlights from the Day

Guests of all ages – and even a few four-legged friends – joined us for a relaxed and engaging afternoon. Here are just a few of the joyful highlights:

• Summer Object Memory Game – A playful challenge that got everyone smiling and guessing!
• Storytelling Moments – Guests shared cherished summer memories, and some brought along beloved photos to bring their stories to life.
• Exercise Challenge – Light movement and fun stretches got everyone up and moving together.
• A Gentle Walk Around the Park – Surrounded by trees and flowers, we enjoyed peaceful strolls and lovely chats along the way.
• Plant Giveaway – Every guest went home with a plant to remember the day and keep the green spirit growing at home.

Music, Laughter and Community

The atmosphere was made even more special thanks to our community’s contributions. Guests sent in their favourite songs, which played throughout the afternoon, creating a light, happy vibe.

Whether people came to take part in the activities or simply relax in the sunshine, it was clear that the Big Green Picnic brought a real sense of joy and togetherness.
