Two Weeks of Peace of Mind: How Our Respite Care Enabled a Local Family to Enjoy Their Holiday
Published: 01/12/2025
In Summer 2025, the daughter of Mr. M.W. contacted Right at Home Salisbury & Andover to arrange short-term respite care while she and her family were away on holiday.
Her father wished to remain safely at home, but needed daily support for companionship, wellbeing and some domestic tasks. Our team stepped in to provide a personalised two-week care package that ensured continuity, comfort, and complete peace of mind.
Mr. M.W. was fully independent but had limited mobility and was recently diagnosed with dementia. As such, our fantastic Carers supported him with:
- Daily companionship
- Support with cleaning
- Someone he could trust and feel comfortable with
- A consistent routine while his family was abroad
- Reassurance and emotional wellbeing
His daughter wanted to ensure he felt supported, safe, and never alone, while also having time to rest and recharge on her holiday.
Our Assessment Process
Before care began, our Registered Manager, Claire, visited the Client at home to complete a full, free assessment.
They discussed:
- His daily routines
- His health history
- His likes, dislikes, and interests
- What would help him feel comfortable while his family was away
- How often he would like visits
- Any additional safety considerations
This allowed for us to design a person-centred plan that met his exact needs and gave his family confidence he would be fully supported whilst they were away.
The Respite Care Plan We Created
Daily Companionships Visits
Our daily companionship visits included engaging conversation, emotional reassurance, and social interaction.
Support with Daily Activities
We provided light houskeeping and ensured the bins were taken out as required.
Wellbeing Monitoring
Our Carers kept a close eye on mood, routines, and general comfort.
Family Updates
Regular communication was maintained so his daughter felt connected and reassured during her holiday.
What Our Visits Looked Like
During each visit, our Carers spent quality time with Mr. M.W., ensuring he felt relaxed, valued, and supported. Activities included:
- Friendly conversation
- Checking safety and wellbeing
- Emptying bins and light housekeeping tasks
Mr. M.W. quickly developed a warm connection with his care team, making the experience enjoyable and comforting.

Sarah | Daughter of Client"I want to share how fantastic the team are at 'Right at Home, Salisbury and Andover'. Courtney and Claire arranged to visit my Dad everyday in the summer (July 2025) whilst I was abroad on holiday. They were incredibly professional and quick to respond and organise his care at short notice. And they took such great care of him whilst I was away, as if he were part of their own family. He loved the companionship of their daily visits and chats, and they took such fabulous care of his complex health and everyday needs. It was such a relief to know I could leave him in trusted hands and I could enjoy being away. I can definitely recommend their fantastic and caring service, and will absolutely be using their service again. Thank you so much Courtney and Claire!"
