Going Above and Beyond When It Matters Most: Supporting One Family in Their Time of Need
Published: 24/03/2026
At Right at Home Salisbury & Andover, we believe that care is not just about meeting needs — it is about being there when it matters most.
Recently, our team had the privilege of supporting a local family during an incredibly difficult time, ensuring their loved one could remain where he felt safest and most comfortable — at home.
A Wish to Stay at Home
When we first met Mr GP and his family, it was clear how much love surrounded him. Living with advanced dementia, Mr GP’s needs had become increasingly complex. Despite this, his wish was simple — to remain at home with his wife and daughter.
Unfortunately, the family had struggled to find the right support. Other providers had been unable to step in at the level required, leaving them feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to turn.
That’s when they contacted our team.
Following a detailed needs assessment, we worked closely with the family to design a care package that would provide both safety and dignity, while respecting Mr GP’s wishes.
Stepping In When It Truly Mattered
Care was due to begin on 23rd January.
However, the day before, the family found themselves in crisis.
Mr GP’s daughter contacted us in distress, urgently needing support and a moment of respite.
Without hesitation, our Registered Manager, Debs, and Director, Courtney, responded immediately — arriving at the family home within 30 minutes.
Their priority was simple:
- Ensure Mr GP was safe and comfortable
- Provide reassurance and stability
- Give the family the space they needed to breathe and regroup
This immediate response allowed the family to step away, collect their thoughts, and feel supported at a time when they needed it most.
Delivering Consistent, Compassionate Care
From that moment on, our team took over Mr GP’s care, delivering a comprehensive package of support.
We provided:
- Four visits per day
- Two carers at each visit to ensure safe and effective care
- Full involvement from our management team to maintain the highest standards
Every visit was centred around dignity, comfort, and compassion - ensuring Mr GP remained in familiar surroundings, supported by a team who truly cared.
A Family's Words
The impact of care is best reflected in the words of those we support:
Daughter of Client |"Following a needs assessment meeting on 21st Jan we agreed a limited care package with Right at Home starting on 23rd January. But on 22nd January we had a problem with my father which we could not manage alone. I called Right at Home to ask for advice and amazingly they offered to send two people immediately one of which was the manager. They resolved the situation and gave me a chance to leave the house and recover. It was incredible support. I am so grateful."
More Than Care
While Mr GP has sadly since passed away, it was an honour to support him and his family during such an important time in their lives.
This case reflects what truly matters to us:
- Being responsive when others cannot be
- Supporting families emotionally as well as practically
- Delivering care that is personal, compassionate, and reliable
At Right at Home Salisbury & Andover, we don’t just provide care — we stand beside families when they need us most.
