Oustanding Care
At Right at Home Salisbury & Andover, we firmly believe that exceptional care starts with exceptional training.
That's why we are delighted to share that our Registered Manager, Debby Sheldon, and Director, Dr. Courtney Hillman, have successfully completed the Homcare Association Train the Trainer Dementia Care Course.
For us, this wasn't simply another course to add to our certificates. It was an opportunity to deepen our understanding of dementia, strengthen our ability to support our Care Assistants, and ultimately improve the lives of our Clients.
Why dementia training matters
Dementia affects almost every aspect of a person's life, but no two people experience it in the same way. Behind every diagnosis is an individual with their own story, personality, routines and preferences.
Providing truly outstanding dementia care means understanding not only the condition itself, but also the emotions, challenges and experiences of the person living with it.
through this comprehensive programme delivered by the Homecare Association, we explored best practice in dementia care, communication techniques, person-centred approaches and practical strategies that help people continue living well at home.
Taking our learning back to the whole team
One of the most valuable aspects of the course is that it equips us to become trainers ourselves.
This means we can now deliver high-quality dementia training directly to our own Care Assistants, ensuring that everyone in our team benefits from the latest evidence-based approaches and best practice.
By training our team in-house, we can tailor learning to the real situations our Care Professionals encounter every day, encourage discussion, share experiences and continually develop our skills together.
It also means that learning doesn't stop after a single training session. Dementia care is constantly evolving, and so are we.
Better training means better care
Families place enormous trust in us when they invite us into their loved one's home.
That trust deserves more than compassion alone - it deserves knowledge, confidence and a commitment to continual improvement.
Whether it's understanding why someone may become distressed, adapating communication to reduce anxiety, recognising changes in behaviour or finding creative ways to maintain independence, every new skill helps us provide even better support.
For us, investing in education is investing in our Clients.
“We never want our training to be a tick-box exercise. Every course we complete is an investment in the people we support. By becoming Homecare Association Dementia Care Trainers, we're able to bring the latest best practice directly into our own team, ensuring our Carers have the confidence, knowledge and skills to make a meaningful difference every single day.”
