Here at Right at Home, we pride ourselves on providing high quality training for all our Care Givers.  This ensures we are well placed to provide the highest level of quality care and support for all our clients residing in and around Stevenage, Letchworth, and Hitchin.

Induction Training

Our training begins with an intensive 2 day induction programme.  This includes ‘Getting to know Right at Home‘ and what makes us different to other Homecare providers.  It is important to us to ensure Care Givers live and breathe our values and understand the importance of quality in everything we do at Right at Home Stevenage, Letchworth, and Hitchin.

The induction programme also includes understanding your role, codes of conduct, equality & diversity, communication, care planning and working in a person centred way.  The programme then focuses on confidentiality, privacy & dignity, fluids & nutrition, lone working, mental health, safeguarding, risk assessments, health & safety, handling information and infection, prevention & control.  We also conduct a Dementia Awareness session for Care Givers.  These modules provide a solid foundation to build on.

Care Givers then move on to Moving & Handling training.  This covers both the theory and practical aspects and covers legislation, supporting a client to stand, using a sling and hoist and slide sheets best practice.  The practical elements are conducted by our Registered Manager who has over 10 years’ experience in various care settings across North Hertfordshire.

Our Medication training is also delivered by our Registered Manager and covers: 3 levels of support, types of medication commonly encountered, medication administration processes, understand how to handle, store, and dispose of medication and understanding the risks associated with medication.

Continuous Development

It doesn’t stop there!    We then provide Basic Life Support training enabling our Care Givers to know how to react in an emergency.  All face to face training is then complemented with e-learning modules which reinforces key messages.

Once classroom based training has been completed, new Care Givers then ‘shadow’ a more experienced Care Giver in supporting a client in their own home.  This ensures consistency in the quality of care and support that Right at Home is well known for.  The Registered Manager will then assess that the Care Giver is confident and competent before allowing them to work alone.

We continually spot check Care Givers to ensure they are maintaining quality and safety.  Through regular supervisions we feedback any improvements a Care Giver should implement.

Specialist training is also provided where Care Givers are required to support clients with specific needs.

Training is a continuous process at Right at Home – this enables us to continue to provide the highest level of safe and quality care and support for all our clients.  For further information regarding our services please call our friendly team on 01462 559159.
