Working for a values-based company

A values-based company lives and breathes their values through the work they do each day, and always look to recruit the people who would do the same. It’s important to choose a company whose values align with your own, because you will work better as a team, build stronger working relationships, increase your productivity, feel more committed to the business. This all allows you to achieve greater success in your career and be happier at work. How a company embeds these shared values into their work will give you a good idea if you will be a good match.

The Right at Home values:

Our four very special values are at the heart of everything we do. Let’s take a look at what our values mean in more detail and explore how they are embedded into everything we do:

Quality

Receiving a quality service is expected. For example, when you’re at the shops or in a restaurant, quality is a key factor on deciding whether you want to return. To offer an outstanding service, there are a lot of factors to consider, to ensure that the result is the best it can be. That’s why for Right t Home, quality is at the heart of everything we do …

Our business is built on quality care - our purpose is to improve the lives of our clients and their families. We have a preferred minimum of 1-hour visits so both the Caregiver and the Client have time to build meaningful relationships and deliver the highest quality support. We also never send new members of staff to clients without ensuring they have already been properly introduced.

We strive to encourage and listen to feedback from Clients and family members so we can always look for ways we can improve the service we offer. For example, we have frequent conversations with both our care team and Client (and client families) to find out how we can improve. We have also run a survey which has been sent to our clients, which encourages them to relay their thoughts about the quality of care received.

How does quality impact our employees?

We provide industry-leading training at every level and for every role. We hold training days with a warm and welcoming environment to encourage supportive learning environments for our team, who work towards their Care Certificate, as well as undertaking relevant, nourishing training modules, such as dementia support training.

At Right at Home Stevenage, Letchworth and Hitchin, we ensure that our team are thoroughly and consistently supported through our open-door policy. We encourage open communication between the office and the field, as this allows everyone to improve in confidence in their role. We also equip our team with all the tools they need to complete their job to a high level, such as Personal Protective Equipment and further training sessions where needed or requested. Recently, we had a member of staff express interest in completing their 'train-the-trainer' certification, which we were only too happy to support!

Compassion

It is crucial for us to work with people who are very understanding when it come to other people’s feelings, and who sympathise with others if perhaps they are having a tough time. All of our team are highly compassionate and empathetic, which is why they work so well together, and are so appreciated by our Clients.

We find that compassion promotes openness between employers and employees as well as between employees and Clients, leading to stronger working relationships. It is also vital as it gives team members greater empathy when they consider the other, individual experiences of their colleagues and Clients, thus allowing them to be more successful in their role.

Respect

If you’re the kind of person that feels strongly about treating others with care and kindness, then like us, respect is an important value of yours. As an employer who values respect, we make this a core principle of our fair and equal work environment.

Ensuring that employees know they are valued for their achievements, abilities, and qualities, is something we always prioritise. As well as our monthly GEM Awards, we encourage our team through positive affirmation and tokens of gratitude - such as 'self-care' packages for when the team have pulled through a particularly difficult month. We find this helps to promote an overall positive workplace atmosphere, allowing our team to be more engaged and motivated to work to the best of their ability.

How do we demonstrate respect towards our staff?

We Listen: We value the feedback of our team, and are always open to suggested improvements, striving to work together for collaborative solutions. We also love to hear positive feedback too, encouraging our team to leave reviews where possible. We are proud of our open work environment, where everyone feels supported enough to offer honest feedback. We love having people come into the office, whether its to tell us about a difficult day, or relay funny stories from their Clients.

We value your time and workload: We make sure to not give you too much work that it becomes stressful for you and only give you a manageable workload. It is important to us that our team are given a manageable workload, with time to rest an recuperate. We also employ a number of staff who are able to work around their childcare commitments and spend the time they need away from work.

Respecting employee career goals: There are many opportunities for career progression, learning new skills and specialisms. We always look to promote internally when career progressions become available - we recently promoted one of our team members to the role of Care Co-ordinator, allowing her to take the next step in her care career. This role is perfect, as it allows her to continue delivering the care she enjoys, while simultaneously adopting more responsibility in accordance with her valued position as a respected member of the RAH SLH team.

Trust

For Right at Home Stevenage, Letchworth and Hitchin, trust is a two-way process which is important for any successful working relationship. We stick to our promise of ensuring our employees have all the tools and training they need to do their jobs effectively, and we abide by our open-door policy for both constructive and positive feedback. In return, we trust our employees to uphold our high standards and always be open and honest with feedback to help us improve the service we offer.

Having trust in any working relationship is incredibly important, as it helps to encourage collaborative working, empowers ethical decision making and helps our team to feel more valued in their role.
