Outdoor picnic event in partnership with Dementia Adventure
As part of our collaboration this year with charity partner Dementia Adventure, we organised a picnic for clients and staff in the peaceful, tucked-away Lindengate gardens.
Spending time in the great outdoors
Dementia Adventure organises days out and holidays for people living with dementia and their carers. Based on research, evidence shows that there are real benefits to health and wellbeing from spending time outside in nature.
Benefits of social connection
We sat under an awning while we ate our picnics and chatted with each other. Clients were interested to meet each other and also spend time with staff in a different setting. Connecting is another aspect of wellbeing that we are keen to promote through our care services.
When everyone had finished eating and enjoyed a lighthearted game of bingo, we set off on a tour of the gardens, taking in all sorts of intriguing and uplifting sights - a host of stripy caterpillars crawling all over a leafy plant, huge onions erupting out of the hard-baked soil, espaliered apple trees and industrious volunteers picking blackcurrants under green netting.
Creating memories
Everyone was feeling happy and relaxed, having benefited from each other's company, plenty of fresh air and the stimulating sights and sounds of nature. Precious memories were created that they can take with them and cherish..... until the next time.
