Robyn Shattock – Care Coordinator
She / Her
Hi, I’m Robyn Shattock, and I’m a Care Coordinator at Right at Home Cheshire East. I joined the team in December 2025, but I’ve been coordinating care for ten years now, so there isn’t much about a care rota I haven’t seen at least once.
I fell into coordination the way a lot of people do: I started out in care, got asked to help out in the office one week when someone was off, and never quite went back. It turned out I had a head for the moving parts. Coordination is a bit like a jigsaw where the pieces keep changing shape. You’re matching Carers to Clients by location, skills and, just as importantly, personality, then rebuilding the picture every time something shifts. I love that. Ten years on, I still get a small sense of satisfaction when a tricky week’s rota finally clicks into place.
As a Care Coordinator at Right at Home, I’m the link between the office, our Carers and the Clients and families we support. I plan the rotas, make sure every visit is covered by the right Carer, and keep everyone informed when plans change. Because our visits are a full hour minimum and our Carers travel in their own time rather than the Client’s, I can build a schedule that’s realistic, with no one rushing between houses. I also keep a close eye on consistency, so Clients see familiar faces rather than a different person every day. For someone living with dementia especially, that continuity is everything.
If there’s one skill that’s served me well, it’s being a quick learner. Every office has its own systems, every Client has their own routine, and every week throws up something new. I’d rather get my head around something fast and get on with it than wait to be shown twice. Joining Right at Home in December 2025 was a good test of that, and I felt at home within a few weeks.
What do I enjoy most? Easily, the team. I’ve worked in a few places over ten years and the people here are something special; everyone in the office and out on the road is pulling in the same direction. I like knowing that the work we do makes a real difference to people’s lives, even when my part of it happens behind a desk. When a daughter rings to say her mum had a lovely morning with her Carer, that’s me having got the match right, and it never stops feeling good. And no two days are the same. I can walk in with a plan at eight and have rewritten it twice by ten, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Of Right at Home’s four values, trust is the one I think about most. Families trust us to turn up, on time, with the right person, and our Carers trust me to give them a rota they can actually deliver. Get both of those right and the quality and compassion follow naturally.
Outside work, I live in Buxton, up in the Peak District, which makes for a scenic commute on a good day and an interesting one in January. I’m a quiz fiend, so if your local pub has a Tuesday night quiz, there’s a fair chance I’ve been. I love the cinema too, and I’ll watch pretty much anything with a good story and a decent tub of popcorn. Most of all, though, I like spending time with family and friends; a big table, good food and plenty of chat is my idea of a perfect evening. If I were stranded on a desert island and could take one thing, it’d be my phone. Partly to call for help, obviously, but mostly because I’d want to know who won the quiz.
