From a Park Bench to a Place to Call Home
Sometimes care means so much more than the care we provide during a scheduled visit.

Recently, an 82-year-old gentleman was referred to Right at Home Cheshire East following a hospital admission. Before going into hospital, a breakdown in his living arrangements had left him homeless.
At 82, he had been sleeping on a park bench.
After his discharge from hospital, he was placed temporarily in a Travelodge while staff found permanent accommodation. Although he finally had a roof over his head, a hotel room was far from a suitable long-term home for an older gentleman trying to regain some stability and independence.
For about five weeks, our team supported him, working closely with the Homelessness Officer to find somewhere safe and permanent for him to live.
Then came the news we had all been waiting for…
🏡 A flat had been found!
But there was another challenge. He had very little to put in it.
That's when our team and our local community came together.
🚐 Muff Wash, a local car detailing company based in Wilmslow, generously provided us with a van completely FREE OF CHARGE so that we could help get furniture to his new home.
Members of our management team rolled up their sleeves, collected the furniture, loaded the van, transported everything to his new flat and helped get it all inside.
Our amazing care staff then supported him to buy the everyday essentials he needed and helped him arrange his new home and begin settling in.
Just think about that journey for a moment.
- A park bench.
- A hospital bed.
- Five weeks in a hotel.
- And finally… his own front door. ❤️
