Grantham Hosts Big Green Picnic Celebrating Nature, Connection and Dementia Support

Published: 20/06/2025

On Monday 16th June, Right at Home Grantham and Newark proudly hosted a joyful, dementia-friendly Big Green Picnic at Grantham Tennis Club. From 12:00 to 14:30, the sun shone down on an afternoon of music, movement and connection – all in celebration of community, inclusion, and the great outdoors.

The event, part of a national initiative led by Dementia Adventure and supported locally by Right at Home Grantham and Newark, welcomed Clients, Carers, families, and members of the public to enjoy nature-inspired activities in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

A huge thank you goes to Jo Taylor at Shine Lincolnshire, who brought smiles and song to the day with her wonderful dementia-led singing session – a real highlight of the afternoon.

We also extend our deepest thanks to Melanie from Grantham Tennis Club, whose support and generosity helped make the event possible. The beautiful venue and warm hospitality provided the perfect backdrop for a day of community and connection.

“We wanted to offer something a little different,” said Anand Parekh, Managing Director of Right at Home Grantham and Newark. “It’s so important that people living with dementia, their loved ones, and their carers have opportunities to get out into the community, reconnect with others, and feel the joy of nature and togetherness. That’s what the Big Green Picnic was all about – creating a space where everyone could feel uplifted, supported, and included.”

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. On the very same day, Right at Home Grantham and Newark was officially recognised as one of the Top 20 Home Care Providers in the East Midlands 2025 by homecare.co.uk – a huge achievement reflecting the team's passion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional care.

As part of National Picnic Week and Care Home Open Week (16–22 June 2025), the Big Green Picnic offered refreshments, entertainment, and memory-friendly activities in a peaceful outdoor setting. These events are designed to stimulate the senses and bring people together, highlighting how personalised care and community-led initiatives can make a lasting difference.

The Big Green Picnic in Grantham is just one of many being held across the UK, with Right at Home offices working alongside Dementia Adventure to bring these joyful experiences to communities nationwide.
