Home Care: A Live-in Care Case Study in Redhill, Surrey
Published: 27/06/2025
At Right at Home Reigate and Crawley, we believe in making a difference every day through personalised, compassionate care. This case study highlights how our dedicated team enabled an elderly couple living in Redhill, Surrey to continue living safely and independently at home through professional live-in care and coordinated support.
Background: A Couple’s Need for Home-Based Care
Mr and Mrs H, an elderly couple in Redhill, faced a turning point in their lives in July 2023. Mr H, who lives with Parkinson’s disease and peripheral neuropathy, experienced a serious fall and required a left hip replacement. After surgery, his ability to walk, transfer, and manage daily tasks declined significantly, requiring full-time assistance.
Mrs H, meanwhile, was living with dementia. Although initially able to manage her routine with some guidance, the increasing care needs of her husband made home life more complex. Their family contacted Right at Home to enable a safe hospital discharge for Mr H and ensure that both could be supported at home.
Our Involvement: A Domiciliary Care Plan Tailored to Their Needs
Our Business Care Manager completed a detailed home care assessment, providing the family with expert guidance to arrange the right level of care. Team identified a compassionate live-in carer (E) to support Mrs and Mr H.
From the beginning, E showed great dedication to understanding the couple’s physical and emotional needs. She worked sensitively with Mrs H, who was initially anxious about the changes to their home environment and helped her adjust with warmth and consistency.
Outcomes: Improved Mobility, Confidence, and Stability
Thanks to E’s support, Mr H made remarkable progress in his post-operative recovery. He is now able to manage his personal care with minimal support and can safely mobilise indoors using a rollator frame. The consistent one to one care he received contributed greatly to his increased independence and confidence.
As Mrs H’s dementia progressed in early 2024, additional complexities emerged. She began to experience distressing episodes linked to both her condition and a history of epilepsy, which restricted her access to certain medications. E proactively recognised that the current medication regime was no longer effective and raised concerns with our office team.
Multidisciplinary Action: Advocating for Better Care
With the family’s support, our team coordinated with the local GP to review Mrs H’s medication. Following persistent advocacy from E and the family, a new prescription was issued, which significantly improved Mrs H’s wellbeing and reduced episodes of distress. This timely and proactive approach helped to maintain a safe and calm home environment, protecting Mr H from any additional risks.
A Holistic Approach to Home Care in Surrey
Today, E continues to care for Mrs H while encouraging Mr H to maintain his independence with light assistance. The couple remains safely and comfortably at home, benefiting from a trusted home care service that adapts with their changing needs.
Their sons have expressed deep gratitude for the personalised and professional care their parents receive:
“The live-in carer provides exceptionally good service for dementia care and post-hospital recovery support. Extremely friendly and professional, and backed up by very efficient support from the office.”
