Alastair Shanks

Owner and Managing Director

Hello! My name is Alastair Shanks and I am the new owner (as of 1st April 2021) and Managing Director for Right at Home (Twickenham and Richmond).

However, I am not new to Right at Home! I have owned Right at Home GF in Farnham for nearly 9 years now and absolutely love what I do. I believe in leading a team with a clear set of values and am very proud of the reputation that my team have built up in the local area for trusted and reliable homecare and live in care. With the support of my excellent Registered Manager Sara Woodley we have instilled a culture of care, reliability and trust within the organisation. I am excited to be adding another Right at Home office to my organisation and very much look forward to providing the best home care and live in care around to those who need our support in the Richmond and Twickenham area.

After completing a master degree in engineering at Bristol University I joined Unilever and was lucky enough to work in a few different roles, including a two year stint in Milan. I returned to the UK to join my family business working in engineering. Following a challenging couple of years after the 2008 credit crunch I moved to Farnham and then joined the Right at Home network as the seventh franchisee in the UK, opening my office in Farnham in June 2012. We have seen great growth and in the last year have become the top office in the UK, supporting around 150 people to stay living independently in their own homes.

Since the first year of Right at Home we have run initiatives to support our local community. I have a particular passion for dementia and believe that getting the care right for people living with dementia can make a huge difference to those people and their families. From our Farnham office we run many regular events like Singing for the Mind and Love to Move to help those living with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia to enjoy some social activities. I very much intend to bring some dementia friendly events to the local communities in Richmond and Twickenham.

To me, our team is what makes our business so special. I am delighted to be taking on such a great team of care professionals in the Twickenham Right at Home office and am very much looking forward to supporting them to keep delivering the fantastic care that they are well known for.
