Dementia Adventure named as Right at Home UK’s national charity of the year

Right at Home UK is proud to announce that Dementia Adventure has been chosen as its new national charity partner. The three-year partnership reflects Right at Home’s continued commitment to improving the lives of people in Twickenham and Richmond who are living with dementia and supporting their families through meaningful experiences and initiatives.

Dementia Adventure is an impactful charity that provides supported holidays and nature-based activities for people living with dementia and their carers.

The partnership will see Dementia Adventure and local branches of Right at Home, including the Twickenham and Richmond office, jointly running several community initiatives such as ‘Green Letter Days’. This is the term coined by Dementia Adventure to describe a special activity or excursion that has been designed to help individuals with dementia enjoy the outdoors.

The first ‘Green Letter Day’ will be a trip to Lord’s Cricket Ground on 17 May. The experience is open to anyone living with dementia, in particular Right at Home clients.

Alastair Shanks, Managing Director of Right at Home Twickenham and Richmond and a trustee for Dementia Adventure, says: I am delighted that two organisations that I have great belief in are going to be collaborating.I had the privilege of joining a Dementia Adventure holiday on the Isle of Wight, and the positive impact was remarkable. I saw firsthand how the experience transformed both those living with dementia and their carers. One gentleman who struggled to eat at home was full of enthusiasm at every meal, and the support offered a real break for carers. It was a week full of laughter, new friendships, and lasting memories.”

Right at Home offices across the UK are also planning a series of fundraising activities. Staff from Twickenham and Richmond and a couple of clients are taking part in a thrilling firewalk challenge which will see them bravely walking barefoot across hot coals.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to face fears, bond as a team, and raise vital funds for a cause close to our hearts,” said Liz Young, Right at Home Twickenham and Richmond’s Marketing and Recruitment Manager. “We look forward to involving as many of our team and members of the community as possible.”
