Supporting Our Community with Wound Care Training

At Right at Home Worthing & Shoreham District, we’re always looking for new ways to make life at home safer, more comfortable and more independent for the people we care for, even when medical needs come into play.
We’re delighted to share that several members of our Care Team have recently completed specialist Simple Wound Care training, led by our Clinical Lead, Lisa Grainger. Lisa brings a wealth of experience as a nurse in both community and palliative care, and her training is helping our Carers grow their skills and confidence in delivering high-quality support.
This new training means our team can now help with basic wound dressing changes, following care plans put in place by local community nursing teams. This extra layer of support allows us to:
-
Help clients recover comfortably at home after surgery or injury
-
Support earlier hospital discharge when appropriate
-
Ease pressure on local NHS services
-
Maintain consistent, high-quality care between nursing visits
Lisa has been leading a national programme of Delegated Health Care Activity training across Right at Home, in line with the Department of Health and Social Care’s 2023 guidance. Our local Carers have really embraced the opportunity, learning about how wounds heal, how to spot early signs of infection, and how to carry out safe dressing techniques.
We’re now working hand in hand with local Community Nursing Teams to provide a truly joined-up approach to care. Nurses will continue to assess, plan and monitor wound care, while our trained Carers can provide support in between visits, ensuring care stays seamless, timely and person-centred.
“Our aim is to save community teams time and resources, while ensuring clients receive timely, consistent care in the comfort of their own homes,” says Lisa Grainger, Clinical Lead at Right at Home. “It’s all about teamwork and keeping people where they want to be, at home.”
We’re proud to be strengthening our partnerships with local healthcare services and continuing to deliver care that really makes a difference to people’s lives across Worthing, Shoreham and the surrounding areas.
