Bredhurst was formed initially as a chapelry within Hollingbourne, Kent. Bredhurst was untouched during the Blitz and the whole of the second world war.  Bredhurst comes from the old English “bred” meaning a board, plank with hyrst as a wooded hill. Therefore, a wooded hill where boards were obtained.
