History of Rainham

Historically was a separate village until it was added to the Municipal Borough of Gillingham in Kent.  Rainham has its roots going back to the Saxon period and there is strong evidence of a settlement before that with a Neolithic site.

Situated on the A2 between Gillingham and Newington, Rainham town centre provides a unique blend of modern simplicity and village ambience. Dominating the skyline is the elegant St Margaret’s Church made from traditional Kentish materials St Margaret's Church.

In the heart of Rainham you will find a wide mix of shops serving the day-to-day needs of the local community. There are many places to eat and drink, from family-friendly pubs with gardens to modern cafés providing al fresco facilities. In the High Street an extensive range of restaurants, offering mouth-watering cuisine from around the world, can be found.
