Homecare – It’s About Staying You
Our homecare on the Hoo Peninsula helps you keep living life your own way, in the village you know and the home you have made your own. We support Clients in Hoo St Werburgh, Chattenden, High Halstow, Cliffe, Cliffe Woods, Cooling, Allhallows, the Stoke villages and out as far as the Isle of Grain, with care that can begin with one visit a day and build into full live-in support.
The peninsula is its own place, with villages sitting on the higher ground above the marshes and a single main road running out towards the estuary. People who live here tend to know their neighbours, and many families have been on the peninsula for generations. The flip side of that rural setting is distance, which becomes far more noticeable once driving stops being an option. Our Carers know these lanes well, so visits arrive when we say they will rather than when the traffic allows.
Deciding that you or a relative needs support can be difficult, and the decision often arrives after a fall or a change in health. As a fully-regulated and highly-rated homecare provider, we begin by getting to know the person. We'll ask how your days run at the moment and where a dependable pair of hands would take some of the pressure off.
You'll be supported by a small team who come to know you properly, and we prefer each visit to last at least an hour. That gives your Carer time to help you without rushing and time to sit and talk while they're there.
Whether you're considering home care on the Hoo Peninsula for the first time or your current arrangement has stopped working as it should, our local team would be glad to talk things through with you.

Care for a Life You Love
The life you love is usually built from ordinary, familiar things. It might be a slow walk to the village shop in the morning, or an hour watching the birds come over the fields from the back window. Your care should protect those things while helping you stay safe and well at home.
We start by asking how you would like your days to look, and we then build the support that makes it possible. For some Clients, that means help with washing and dressing or a hand preparing a hot meal. For others, it means company on a walk or a lift over to see somebody in the next village. Families often tell us the real difference is having time together that isn't taken up with practical jobs.
We match Clients with Carers on personality as well as on care needs, because a comfortable relationship makes everything else easier. In time, your Carer will learn how you like things done at home and will notice the mornings when you seem a little off colour.
For relatives, reassurance usually matters most, particularly when they live away from the peninsula. They know that someone reliable has been in, and they can follow updates through our secure digital care plans wherever they are. Our local office team is also there for any question that comes up between visits.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does homecare cost on the Hoo Peninsula?
The cost depends on the support you need and how often you need it. After a free assessment, we'll prepare a Care & Support Plan that reflects your circumstances and your budget, and we'll review it with you as time goes on. Depending on your finances and your care needs, you may be eligible for funding through Medway Council. We can explain how that works or work alongside your social worker.
What do our Clients enjoy doing in and around the Hoo Peninsula?
Staying at home works best when you can also keep up with what goes on around you. Our Carers can walk beside you, drive you or help you get ready in good time so that an outing feels easy rather than hard work.
Here are some of the places and routines our Clients across the peninsula enjoy.
The shops and the library in Hoo: Hoo St Werburgh has the fullest set of shops and services on the peninsula, and a lot of people come in from the smaller villages for them. We can take you over, wait while you have a look round and carry everything home afterwards.
Northward Hill and Cliffe Pools: The RSPB reserves bring herons and all sorts of other birds to this part of Kent. Some of the ground is uneven, so we can help you pick a route that suits you or find a spot to sit and watch from.
Cooling churchyard and the Dickens connection: The churchyard at Cooling is where Dickens set the opening of Great Expectations, and the castle gatehouse stands just along the road. Clients often enjoy taking visiting family round and telling them the story.
A trip down to the water: The marina at Hoo and the front at Allhallows-on-Sea both give you somewhere to sit with a view. A short drive with a flask makes a good afternoon when a longer outing feels like too much.
Church services across the villages: Every village here has its own church, and plenty of Clients have attended the same one all their lives. We arrange care visits around service times so nothing has to be given up.
Village halls and community groups: Coffee mornings and social clubs run through the week across the peninsula. We plan our visits around the ones you go to, because they matter as much as anything else in your week.
Appointments and shopping in Strood or Rochester: Bigger shops and most appointments mean a drive off the peninsula. We can take you, stay with you while you're seen and collect a prescription on the way back.
Family occasions: Birthdays and Sunday dinners come up in conversation more than any place does. We can help you get ready in plenty of time or support you during a visit, so the day belongs to your family.
What are the benefits of domiciliary care?
Homecare offers numerous advantages for those seeking to remain independent while receiving necessary support:
- Familiar Surroundings: Staying at home allows Clients to remain in their personal environment, promoting comfort and stability.
- Personalised Care: Our services are tailored to each Client’s individual needs and preferences, providing flexible, personalised support.
- One-on-One Attention: Homecare offers focused, one-on-one attention, improving both the quality of care and the overall experience for Clients.
- Maintaining Independence: Homecare enables Clients to retain control over their daily lives while receiving the support needed to live independently.
- Reducing Hospital Readmissions: Our care helps Clients recover effectively after a hospital stay, reducing the likelihood of readmission and promoting long-term health.
When is the right time to organise care?
Deciding to seek care for a loved one is a significant step for any family. Many families begin considering care when a relative starts relying on them for everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning, or running errands.
Starting the conversation early can ensure your family member receives the right level of support before their needs become more pressing. Our experienced team can guide you through this process with understanding and sensitivity.
Do you provide care after surgery or a hospital stay on the Hoo Peninsula?
Yes. We regularly support Clients coming home to Grain from Medway Maritime Hospital and other local hospitals. Our Carers can help with moving about safely, with medication prompts and with meals while your strength returns. We also work alongside your healthcare team so that the first weeks back at home go smoothly.
Can I arrange care for myself?
Absolutely. Many of our Clients take the initiative to arrange their own care. We’ll work with you to build a plan that helps you live life on your own terms.
Who is homecare for?
Anyone who needs a bit of extra support — whether due to age, health issues, or recovery. Every plan is customised to match your routine, goals and preferences.
What's the difference between homecare on the Hoo Peninsula and moving into a care home?
Homecare, also called domiciliary care or care at home, brings support to your own front door at the times you need it. A care home means moving somewhere new and settling into a routine shared with other residents. For many people, home care on the Hoo Peninsula means keeping the house and the village they know while still getting the help they need.
Can you support someone living with dementia at home?
Yes. Our Carers complete specialist dementia training, and familiar surroundings can often help a person living with dementia feel calmer and more oriented. We focus on consistent routines, patient support and activities that continue to bring enjoyment. We also support family members, who often need reassurance and guidance as well. Visit our dementia care services page for more information.
Can you provide overnight, live-in or 24-hour care on the Hoo Peninsula?
Yes. We offer overnight support, live-in care and full 24-hour care where a higher level of cover is needed — including as a step up from visiting care if circumstances change.
