Walking in Their Shoes: A Profound Dementia Training Experience 👣🧠

Last week, the Right at Home Oxford team had the privilege of hosting the Virtual Dementia Tour 🚌, delivered by Training 2 CARE UK Ltd. This powerful and immersive training experience took place on the specially equipped Dementia Bus, giving participants a rare insight into the challenges faced daily by those living with dementia.

The event was attended by a mix of our dedicated care staff 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️, office team members 💼, and the family members of some of our clients 👪 — all united by a shared desire to better understand the condition and improve the care we provide. The tour simulates the sensory and cognitive impairments associated with dementia, helping participants gain a first-hand appreciation of the confusion, frustration, and disorientation many people with dementia experience.

For many, it was an eye-opening and emotional experience 💭💔. Some attendees described it as “transformational,” while others admitted, “I had no idea it was like that before.” 💬 This kind of feedback highlights just how vital and impactful the training can be. It challenges assumptions, deepens empathy, and equips caregivers with the insight needed to make more thoughtful and effective care decisions ✅.
