Taking on Two Fundraising Challenges for Dementia Support

Coming Together for a Cause That Matters
Supporting people living with dementia is something that means a lot to our team at Right at Home Southampton. This September, members of our team got involved in two very different fundraising challenges, helping to raise money for charities supporting people with dementia and their families.
One of those was Walk for Dementia 2026, an event we are proud to sponsor. The event raises funds for Dementia Support Hampshire and Isle of Wight, a local charity supporting people living with dementia and their families. Alongside taking part in the walk, our team also took on a very different challenge at the Right at Home UK annual conference.
Walking for Dementia
Walk for Dementia is something our team takes part in each year, bringing together colleagues, family and friends to support Dementia Support Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
This year, the team completed an 8K walk across mixed terrain, with everyone supporting each other along the way. It was not always an easy walk, but it was a great chance to spend time together and raise awareness of dementia at the same time. Having done this for the last few years with our team, its also become a really nice teambuilding exercise!
The team raised £559 for Dementia Support Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
The walk also gave us a chance to remember our Clients, past and present, particularly those who have lived with dementia. It was a meaningful part of the day and a reminder of why support for people living with dementia and their families is so important. We also got to interact with other families who have a connection with this great charity, which was also a very wholesome part of our days.
Dementia Support Hampshire and Isle of Wight is a local independent charity providing free peer support, information and signposting across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Its run by a lovely team who also had personal experiences of Dementia within their family. Donations help fund support groups, advice sessions and community activities for people living with dementia and those close to them.
A Very Different Fundraising Challenge
The second challenge was rather different… And from speaking to the Directors they may have committed before thinking it through enough!
At the Right at Home UK annual conference, Kev & Amy (our Directors) took part in a fire walk. They were joined by other Right at Home Franchise Owners and members of the National Office team.
The challenge involved walking barefoot across burning coals, all in support of Dementia Adventure, a charity that Right at Home supports nationally.
Kev and Amy raised £1,328, passing their original fundraising target of £400. They were (before you ask) left with 4 functioning feet between themselves, and also a huge sense of achievement.
Dementia Adventure supports people living with dementia and their families through supported holidays and new experiences. Their work helps people continue to enjoy adventures, holidays, spend time together and create new memories.
This is especially meaningful to us because dementia affects many families in the communities we support across Southampton and the New Forest. Having the right support can make a real difference to people and their families.
Thank You to Everyone Who Supported Us
A big thank you to everyone who donated, joined the walk, supported the team or shared our fundraising efforts.
The money raised through both challenges will help two charities continue their work with people living with dementia and their families.
For our team, fundraising is also about coming together and supporting causes that matter to the people in our local communities. From an 8K walk with family and friends to a fire walk at a national conference, both challenges gave us another opportunity to do something positive for others.
We are proud to support charities that help people living with dementia continue to enjoy meaningful experiences and stay connected with the people around them.
Supporting People in Our Local Community
At Right at Home Southampton, our work goes beyond providing care at home. We are also part of the local communities we serve, and we are proud to support charities and organisations that make a difference to local people.
Our Care Assistants provide personalised homecare across Southampton, Totton, the New Forest and surrounding areas, helping Clients live safely and comfortably in their own homes.
