What is Co-production?

Equity in care has been highlighted by Social Care Institute for Excellence’s (SCIE) Co-production Week 2026 and we’ve been reflecting on what this means at Right at Home Bournemouth & Poole.

The Co-production Week from 29 June to 3 July emphasises the positive impact co-production can have on better and more inclusive social care. This year’s theme, care equity, has encouraged us as care providers to explore what it means to ensure that everyone has equal access to high-quality social care, regardless of background, identity and circumstances.

Our Drive for Equality

We are incredibly proud of our equality efforts, working hard to promote the message that it is ‘safe to be you’ if you are one of our LGBTQ+ Clients. We have found that Clients or their families who have concerns surrounding this have significantly delayed seeking care, despite being in need of it, worried of what a homecare provider may think.

We want to reassure our Clients and their families that we champion and celebrate LBGTQ+ and we are an inclusive employer. We are dedicated to providing ‘care for a life you love’, regardless of your background, identity and circumstances.

One of our values is respect, and we are committed to creating an inclusive culture where everyone is valued and treated with dignity.

'Since being founding in 2012, Right at Home Bournemouth and Poole has promoted an inclusive culture where everyone is valued and treated with dignity. We celebrate what brings us together whilst accepting our differences, creating an environment where our people, both Clients and Carers, feel able to be themselves.'

More Than Care

We have worked with the wider Right at Home family on the company’s ‘More than Care’ campaign to highlight how we go above and beyond daily tasks. Our Carers build trust with our Clients and they feel comfortable to be themselves. This was evident in one Client who identified as LGBTQ+ who felt they could not be themselves.  Our Carers were able to make them feel comfortable to come out and express more of themselves and they revealed that they would have liked to attend a Pride event but have never gone. We were able to arrange that and they enjoyed their first Pride experience.

While the SCIE Co-production Week may just be for a week, care equity is at the forefront of what we do here at Right at Home Bournemouth and Poole and we continue to seek out ways we can help improve this so that everyone has access to high quality social care.
