How does Right at Home Bedford make a difference?

The whole team at Right at Home Bedford is entirely focused on providing the highest quality care. Every day we look to achieve the desired outcome for our clients’ things that are nice to do-not just the things that must be done.

MD Jagdeep Ahluwalia explains: “We always go ‘above and beyond’ rather than just be driven by a checklist of things to do. For example even for Clients where we may provide housekeeping services, we’re able to make a huge difference by monitoring weight loss, mood and overall health.

“Very often we’re the people that the Client has the most contact with. We spot things early, and are able to flag concerns to the GP, District Nurse or other care practitioners on their behalf which is a big help to families.”

Care visits are tailored to the needs of the Client and work to a more outcome focussed (rather than an old school ‘time and tasks’) approach.

“We don’t just get people out of bed, make them a cup of tea and settle them in front of the television,” Jag says. “We really aim to engage and think: what targets could this person achieve in say three months’ time? For example, if someone has felt isolated or withdrawn, can we encourage them to come to the shops with us?”

Our CareGivers

Right at Home Bedford is not an agency, but rather a provider where all CareGivers are employed directly by the company and background checked, insured and trained in-house.

The company also carry out regular unplanned spot checks on staff for safety and quality assurance which is a real source of reassurance, particularly for families.

Carers are employed for their dedication to caring, rather than past experience in the sector necessarily. Staff come from a range of backgrounds, retired nurses, mental health coaches, nursery managers, former customer service professionals, as well as more experienced carers.

Jag talks about the recruitment strategy; “We have found that there are many people in the community that do want to get involved and support the elderly they just need a platform to be trained and coached properly rather than thrown into the deep end.

“A big part of what we do is trying to ‘unearth’ individuals with the right motivations and nurture, guide and develop them to provide a truly caring service.”
