Frequently Asked Questions

How much does gastrostomy care cost in Central London?

Costs vary depending on the level of care needed. We offer tailored plans and a free assessment to help you understand the most suitable and cost-effective option.

Some families may be eligible for financial support from Westminster City Council or Camden Council. Funding can vary depending on circumstances, so we’re happy to talk you through the options and signpost you to relevant assessments or benefits that may help cover the cost of care.

What happens if there is a problem with the PEG tube?

Our team is trained to recognise any concerns early and respond quickly.

If something doesn’t seem right, such as discomfort, leakage or a change in how the tube is working, we will take appropriate action straight away. This may include supporting you to stay comfortable, following agreed guidance, and contacting your GP, dietitian or healthcare team if needed.

With support from our Registered Nurses, we help ensure any concerns are managed safely and promptly, giving you and your family added peace of mind.

What is Percutaneous Gastrostomy Tube (PEG)?

A PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) is a small feeding tube that is placed directly into the stomach. It allows food, fluids and medication to be given safely when eating or drinking in the usual way is difficult.

A PEG may be recommended if you or your loved one are unable to eat or drink enough to stay well. This can happen following a stroke, due to a neurological condition, or during recovery from illness or surgery. It helps ensure the body continues to receive the nutrition and hydration it needs.

While this may sound unfamiliar at first, many people live comfortably with a PEG tube as part of their daily routine. With the right support in place, it can help ensure you or your loved one stays well-nourished, hydrated and supported at home.

Will my Care Assistant be trained in PEG care?

Yes. Our Care Assistants receive specialist training to support PEG feeding safely and confidently. They are also supported by Registered Nurses, ensuring care is delivered to a high standard.

Can I still live independently with a PEG tube?

Yes. Many people continue to live independently at home with the right support in place.

Having a PEG does not mean losing your independence. With gentle support and guidance, you can continue with your usual routines and daily life in a way that feels comfortable and familiar.

Our role is to work alongside you, providing support where needed while encouraging independence wherever possible. Whether that is help with specific parts of your routine or simply offering reassurance, we tailor our approach to what feels right for you.

With consistent, trusted Care Assistants and support from our Registered Nurses, you can feel confident that everything is being managed safely, allowing you to focus on living well at home

Can family members still be involved in care?

Absolutely. We work alongside families, offering guidance and reassurance so you can feel confident and supported, while still being as involved as you wish.

We understand that every family is different. Some prefer to stay closely involved in day-to-day care, while others would like more support to ease the pressure. We adapt to what feels right for you.

Our team can provide gentle guidance on routines, answer any questions you may have, and keep you updated, so you always feel informed and reassured. This way, you can focus on spending quality time together, knowing your loved one is receiving safe and consistent care.

Do you offer overnight or 24-hour care?

Yes. We provide flexible support, including overnight and live-in care, for Clients who need more continuous assistance.

Can you work with my GP or dietitian?

Yes, we can. We work closely with your GP, dietitian and wider healthcare team to ensure your care is joined up and reflects any medical guidance.

This includes following your prescribed feeding plan, supporting any changes to nutrition or medication, and sharing updates where appropriate so everyone involved in your care stays informed.

Our team, supported by experienced Registered Nurses, helps ensure your care remains consistent, safe and tailored to your needs, giving you and your family added reassurance.

Can you support after a hospital stay?

Yes. We can support you when returning home from local hospitals — such as University College Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital — helping you settle back into familiar surroundings with confidence.

We understand that coming home with a PEG can feel like a big adjustment. Our team is there to support you from the very beginning, making sure your feeding routine is followed correctly and that everything feels manageable day to day.

We can also help create a smooth transition from hospital to home by working with your discharge team and following any guidance provided. With support from our Registered Nurses, you can feel reassured that your PEG care is set up safely and continues to be well managed.

Our aim is to help you regain your routine, feel comfortable at home, and reduce the risk of any complications or readmission.

What does a typical visit involve?

Each visit is tailored to you, but may include support with feeding, medication, keeping the PEG site clean and comfortable, and checking everything is working as it should. We also take time to ensure you feel comfortable and supported.

Is PEG care at home safe?

Yes. With trained Care Assistants and oversight from our experienced Registered Nurses, PEG care can be managed safely at home.

We follow clear procedures and gently monitor for any changes, helping to ensure everything is managed correctly day to day. Our team is trained to recognise any concerns early and respond appropriately, giving you added reassurance.

With the right support in place, many people feel more comfortable receiving care in their own home, surrounded by familiar routines and environments, while still benefiting from safe and professional support.
