The Big Green Picnic

Dementia Adventure is Right at Home's charity partner, and the Big Green Picnic is a community event designed to bring people together outdoors, creating opportunities for conversation, connection, and shared experiences while raising awareness of dementia and the importance of inclusive communities.

The Big Green Picnic is part of Dementia Adventure’s wider mission to challenge perceptions of dementia and show that life can continue to be full of meaningful experiences. Through outdoor activities, holidays and community initiatives, Dementia Adventure helps people living with dementia and their supporters access the benefits of nature and adventure.

On Wednesday 15 July, we hosted our first Big Green Picnic in support of our charity partner. It was fantastic to bring our clients and the local community together to raise awareness of the positive impact that spending time outdoors can have on people living with dementia.

The success of the event was made possible thanks to the generosity and support of local businesses who helped create a welcoming and memorable afternoon.

A special thank you goes to Rokewood Court Care Home in Kenley, who kindly provided the venue and went above and beyond by supplying delicious cakes, refreshments and The Surrey Pianist who helped create a warm and enjoyable atmosphere with live music for guests to enjoy. 

Guests were also treated to a free raffle, with fantastic prizes generously donated by Easy Life Care and Mobility, Rawlings Opticians and Pinks Funeral Directors. The raffle added to the fun and gave everyone the chance to take home something special.

Knights Garden Centre supported the event by providing beautiful scented plants for a sensory activity, helping guests explore the power of scent and memory, making this activity a meaningful way to encourage conversation.
