Dementia Action Week

1 in 3 people living with dementia do not have a diagnosis.

Published: 04/06/2026

Dementia Action Week, 18-24 May, is a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness of dementia and encouraging people to seek information, support, and an earlier diagnosis.

It is estimated that one in three people living with dementia in the UK do not have a diagnosis, highlighting the importance of improving awareness and access to support.

Dementia Friends Awareness Sessions

As part of Dementia Action Week, Hakeem Anjorin (Managing Director) and a Dementia Friends Ambassador delivered three separate sessions for the local community. The Dementia Friends sessions are designed to help people better understand dementia, including what it is, how it can affect a person’s daily life, and simple ways we can all make a positive difference. Attendees learn practical steps they can take to support people living with dementia and help create more dementia-friendly communities. The sessions encourage open discussion, break down common misconceptions, and build confidence in supporting those affected.

There was a great turnout across all three sessions, with many participants now proudly wearing their Dementia Friends badges as a symbol of their commitment to raising awareness and supporting people living with dementia.

Dementia Advisor

Alongside our Dementia Friends sessions, we also operated an open-door policy, welcoming members of the community to come in and speak directly with a Dementia Advisor from the Alzheimer’s Society. This provided an opportunity for individuals and families to ask questions, share concerns, and receive tailored advice and reassurance in a supportive environment.

The initiative proved to be a great success, with families describing the sessions as insightful and valuable. Many left feeling better informed and more confident about the support available to them moving forward.

If you're worried about yourself, or someone close to you, then check your symptoms today using the Alzheimer's Society, symptoms checklist.

“Speaking with the Dementia Advisor was incredibly helpful for my Mum. Their warmth and guidance gave her a new perspective on how Dad responds to situations.”

– Lucie, Daughter | Community Walk-In

We welcome local venues, organisations, and community groups interested in hosting one of our Dementia Friends session to contact us directly. Raising awareness is more important than ever, especially when statistics show that 1 in 3 people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime. By improving understanding and increasing awareness of our surroundings and those living with dementia, we can help create more supportive, inclusive, and dementia-friendly communities for everyone.
