Kate’s Story
Kate has been a part of the Right at Home Loughton team for three years. She decided to pursue a career in care after her children started school and she was left with free time on her hands.
“For me, this doesn’t feel like a job. I spend my time with people that I genuinely care about, helping them to enjoy a high quality of life.
As a mum, I now appreciate much more the support my parents gave to me. I see this as my opportunity to give something back.”
What responsibilities and duties will I have?
All roles have the same shared aim – help to improve the lives of the clients and their families we care for. Responsibilities and duties can vary from day to day, with different locations and clients having a huge impact what you will be doing.
To help you get an idea of the ways in which a care workers support their clients we have listed the more regularly required responsibilities below.
Companionship
Not all of our Clients require personal or specialised care. We support with daily activities to maintain your independence, whilst providing a friendly face to share interests and hobbies with.
Personal care
Our CareGivers support with all areas of personal care and hygiene, respecting your privacy and protecting your dignity. Our waking night/sleepover services ensure Clients are comfortable overnight, providing support as required.
Dementia care
Stable routines for people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia can improve their well-being. With our specially trained CareGivers providing practical and emotional support, we make a positive difference to help live well with dementia.
Live-in care
As an alternative to residential care, our CareGiver will live with our clients in their home, giving them the flexibility of help and support whenever needed.
What does a typical day as a CareGiver with Right at Home look like?
No two days with Right at Home are the same, but a typical day in the life of a CareGiver could look a little something like this...
6am: Wake up - it’s time for your first personal care call with 85-year old Edna.
8am: Breakfast – with 92-year old Evelyn, she’s fiercely independent so likes to be involved with meal prep
10am: Companionship – 71-year old Roy loves a chat and playing cards, a friendly face brightens his day
12pm: Lunch – GOOD WORK THIS MORNING, TAKE A MOMENT TO REFUEL!
2pm: Lunch – Pop in and plate up Stella’s lunch. Whilst she’s eating, freshen up the flat and see her smile!
5pm: Medication – Support Norma with her medication, then there is time for a cup of tea and a chat.
7pm: Dinner – Your back to visit Edna, check to see if she’s eaten and then help her settle in bed!
At the end of each visit you’ll be updating the admin team with how our wonderful clients are doing, homecare carers really are difference makers!

Each of our CareGivers will agree that no two days are the same, with new challenges and Clients differing wants and needs, there is always something new to learn. However, the one thing that remains a constant is the incredibly rewarding feeling of knowing that every day, you are helping someone to live a happier, more fulfilled life.
