Right at Home to Host Big Green BBQ with Meadowbrook Care Home This July

Following the success of last year’s Big Green Picnic, Right at Home Stevenage, Bishop’s Stortford and Braintree is delighted to be working once again with Meadowbrook Care Home in Bishop’s Stortford to bring a new community event to life this summer.

On Friday 17 July 2026, we will be hosting the Big Green BBQ in the gardens at Meadowbrook Care Home, building on the fantastic foundations of last year’s event while introducing a fresh and exciting format.

The Big Green BBQ will bring together our Clients, Meadowbrook residents, families, carers and members of the local community for a relaxed and inclusive day outdoors. The event will take place in the same beautiful garden setting as last year, with the option to move indoors if needed.

Last year’s Big Green Picnic marked the first collaboration of its kind between Right at Home and Dementia Adventure in the UK, and it proved to be a hugely positive experience for everyone involved. This year, we are looking forward to making the event even bigger and better.

The Big Green BBQ will feature a traditional BBQ and live entertainment, including a singer, with the focus on creating a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Rather than a structured programme of activities, the day is designed to give people the opportunity to unwind, enjoy the surroundings, and spend time chatting and connecting with others. The environment will be calm, welcoming and supportive, with plenty of staff and volunteers on hand throughout the day.

Families of our Clients are warmly encouraged to attend, helping to make the day a truly shared experience for everyone involved.

To help make the event as accessible as possible, we have arranged transport through Uttlesford Community Travel. A dedicated bus will be available to collect and return some of our guests, making it easier for more people to attend.

We are encouraging anyone who would like to join us to express their interest as early as possible so that we can plan accordingly.

As part of the day, we will also be raising money for Dementia Adventure through a raffle. This follows the success of our recent Easter Raffle, where we raised an incredible £1,524 for the charity. We are hoping to build on that success and continue supporting their important work.

Dementia Adventure is a national charity that supports people living with dementia and their carers to enjoy the outdoors, connect with nature and take part in meaningful activities. They specialise in creating accessible experiences that promote wellbeing, independence and social connection.

Through their work, Dementia Adventure helps to challenge perceptions of dementia and demonstrates that, with the right support, people can continue to live active and fulfilling lives.

Their partnership and guidance were instrumental in the success of last year’s event, and we are proud to continue supporting their mission through initiatives like the Big Green BBQ.
