Care Beyond the Home

How a Day at Attingham Park Brought Joy and Connection

Care Beyond the Home

At Right at Home Telford, we know that care isn’t just about helping people remain at home — it’s about helping them live fully. That often means enabling the kind of days that bring joy, restore confidence, and create new memories.

Last week, one of the couples we support enjoyed a beautiful visit to Attingham Park with two of our CareGivers by their side. It was a bright, crisp day — perfect for a walk, some tea, and a spot of people-watching on a bench overlooking the gardens.

“It felt like the old us again — just out for the day, hand in hand, no pressure, no clock-watching. The girls were fantastic, they gave us space, but we knew they were right there if we needed anything.”

Moments like this are what we mean when we talk about quality of life. The couple were able to move at their own pace, with support discreetly in place to ensure their safety, dignity, and comfort throughout.

“They always treat us like friends, not clients. We laughed, we talked, and for the first time in ages, I felt relaxed being out and about.”

Reconnecting with Life Outside the Home

As we age, getting out can become more difficult — but it shouldn’t feel impossible. We support our clients to reconnect with the things they love, whether that’s a walk through a National Trust garden, a visit to a favourite café, or attending a local bridge club.

These experiences have real impact:

  • They stimulate memory and conversation

  • They reduce isolation and loneliness

  • They nurture relationships — with loved ones, and with life itself

Enabling Independence Through Support

At Right at Home Telford, we see independence not as doing everything alone, but as having the right support in place to live life on your own terms. Whether someone needs a helping hand for a short recovery period or ongoing daily assistance, our goal is to empower clients — not limit them.

We tailor support to what each individual needs to maintain confidence, routine, and freedom. This includes:

  • Planning purposeful outings: From walks in the park and trips to heritage sites to craft groups and local cafés, our CareGivers help clients do the things that make them feel most like themselves.
  • Encouraging self-care: Whether it’s choosing their outfit for the day, preparing a simple meal with guidance, or managing their personal care with dignity, we focus on what clients can do — not what they can’t.
  • Providing emotional reassurance: Our team isn’t just practical support — they’re companions. That presence helps reduce anxiety, especially when re-engaging in activities after illness or a fall.
  • Fostering confidence in familiar settings: We often accompany clients to places they've loved for years, helping re-establish routines that once felt lost. This may include attending a favourite bridge club, church service, or social morning at a village hall.

All our visits are unhurried and person-centred, allowing clients the time and encouragement they need to stay in control of their lives.

"I didn’t think we’d be able to have days out again — not like that. But now we’ve got the confidence to try more. It gave us back something we didn’t realise we’d lost."
