Local Activities Guide - Albrighton and Surrounding Areas

Albrighton has a strong community spirit and plenty going on, from lunch clubs and coffee mornings to flower arranging, singing and friendly social groups.

Published: 05/05/2026

Albrighton is best known to the wider world as the home of David Austin Roses and the neighbour of RAF Cosford, with its famous air show and the RAF Museum Midlands. But ask anyone who lives here, and they will tell you the village's real richness is closer to home: a good deal going on for older residents, much of it run by volunteers and neighbours who know one another. Between the Melville Club, St Mary's Church Centre, the library and the local churches, you can find a hot lunch, a singalong, a spot of flower arranging, a quiet cuppa or a friendly social group on most days of the week, often close to home and with a helping hand to help you get there.

Those famous neighbours make for lovely gentle days out too: the rose gardens and tea room at David Austin, or a walk around the RAF Museum, which is free to enter, are both right on the doorstep.

We have gathered some of the regular groups and activities below. If a bit of support would make joining in easier, whether that is getting to the Melville Club or an afternoon among the roses, that is something we are always happy to help with.

Regular Groups & Events

The Melville Club

The Melville Club is one of Albrighton's longest-running community centres for the over 55s, run entirely by volunteers from its purpose-built base on Station Road. It is a friendly place for lunches, card games, social days out and good company, and there is door-to-door community transport to help members get there and home again.

Some of what is on:

  • Social lunch: a hot, homemade three-course meal on Wednesdays, lunch at 12.30pm. Costs applicable.  Very popular, so please book ahead.
  • Coffee morning: Fridays, 10am to 12 noon. A relaxed drop-in, open to anyone.
  • Whist drive and card games: Wednesday afternoons, 2pm to 4pm (members).
  • Golden Years: a supportive weekly session with tea, coffee and a light lunch, plus a hand with everyday things like bills and appointments.

Membership is a small annual fee. The club also runs a Community Transport Scheme for members, Monday to Friday.

How We Can Help You Get There

For some people the hardest part of going to a group is getting there in the first place. A bit of unsteadiness, low confidence after a fall or a loss, or living with dementia can all make a simple coffee morning feel out of reach. That is where we come in.

A carer your loved one already knows can help them get ready, go along with them, stay for the company and see them home again afterwards. We do not work against the clock, so there is no rushing and no clock watching. The time is theirs.

If you would like to talk about how a little support could help someone get out and about again, we would be glad to hear from you.
