We uphold the principles of respect, dignity, independence, and well-being for every one of our Clients.  All of our team involved in your care, are introduced to you, as part of our "no stranger" policy.  We are also committed to not using agency staff and we ensure that we offer consistency by using a small core team.  Our CareGivers are matched to you, your values and interests.

About Adel, North Leeds

We love Adel, from visits to York Gate Garden to going for a walk in Adel Woods, there is always something to do. Here are some of our favourite activities to do in Adel with our Clients:

Adel Dam Nature Reserve

Hidden between Adel and Bramhope and next to Golden Acre Park, Adel Dam Nature Reserve offers wetland habitats and dry and wet woodland – perfect for bird watching.   For our Clients, who are nimble, there is a 1 mile circular path walk to the hides.  We like to park at the Golden Acre car park on the Otley Road (A660).  For wheelchair users, the marsh hide path is suitable, however, the rest of the route will be too uneven.

From the hides you may well spot a kingfisher, grebe, great spotted woodpecker, red kite or even a water rail!  A water rail is a very shy bird that you may hear but sadly not see.  Listen out for purring, piglets squealing, grunts and groans and there you have your water rail!  In the autumn, you may spot stunning yellow sulphur tufts and bright scarlet elf cup fungi and remember to keep your eyes peeled for badgers, roe deer, foxes and tawny owls!

York Gate Garden in Adel

We love going for a day out to York Gate Garden, and our Clients do too! Having a walk around the beautiful gardens, having some afternoon tea in the café and then maybe buying a plant (or two!) to take home from the nursery - it really is a wonderful day out.

Open seasonally, be sure to check the opening times as well as the snowdrop days in February, before venturing down.  You can even join for around £35 for unlimited visits!

Adel Woods

A lovely 3 mile circular walk through Adel Woods will clear the cobwebs any day! This isn’t one for our Clients with mobility issues sadly, as the trails are quite uneven and the leaves mean it can be slippery underfoot. For those able to though, this is a beautiful woodland to spend an afternoon in, waking up old memories of crunching leaves as a child and jumping in muddy puddles!

Seven Arches Viaduct

Completed in 1842, the Seven Arches was built to transport water from Eccup reservoir to Leeds city centre.  Most of the route is underground but the aqueduct was built to cross Adel Beck in Adel woods.  After just 24 years, the demand for water exceeded it’s capacity.  The bridge since  received a historic bridge award in the year 2000.

Around a 100 meters down from the viaduct is The Sandy Lobby – a lovely quiet glade for a picnic lunch.

St John the Baptist Church, Adel

Built between 1150 and 1170, St John the Baptist Church  is a Grade I listed church combining Norman and Gothic styles.  Close to York Gate Garden, it is nice to combine the two when going on a little saunter with our Clients.

Places to Eat in Adel

Is it really Friday without a fish supper? Many of our Clients would say not! Barnie’s in Adel is always a popular choice, serving traditional fish and chips for a feel good Friday feast!  We also like Tuana Bistro, offering Turkish and Greek, Mediterranean cuisine and Dastaan serving up a delicious Indian experience for those that prefer spicy food.

Hope Pastures

Technically located in Weetwood, but a stones throw from Adel, Hope Pastures is a registered charity who rescue, rehome and rehabilitate donkeys, ponies and horses.  Open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am-2pm it’s the perfect place to go for some of our animal loving Clients.  If you are stuck for a birthday idea – you could even “adopt a pony”!

Headingley Golf Club

Despite the name, Headingley Golf Club is actually located in Adel, north of York Gate Garden and St John the Baptist Church.  Founded in 1892, it is the oldest golf course in Leeds!

About Adel

The name ‘Adel’ comes from old English and means either ‘dirty, muddy place’ or ‘open ground’ – we think open ground sounds a bit nicer thank you!

Adel is an old settlement, having been named in the Domesday Book and being situated near a Roman fort. It also contains Adel Parish Church, which is said to be one of the best preserved Norman Grade I listed churches in Yorkshire.

"Did you know that the paternal grandparents of Catherine, the Princess of Wales, were married at St John the Baptist Church in Adel, in December 1946?"

Today’s Adel still retains a village feel in parts.  With it’s Memorial Hall and sports grounds there is always plenty going on in Adel.
