Things to do in Bramhope, North Leeds with Our Clients

Bramhope Village

Bramhope is a village in North Leeds, located between Leeds city centre and Otley.  It can be found north of Cookridge and Holt Park and south of Pool-in-Wharfedale.

We really love Bramhope - from walks around Golden Acre Park to having a traditional fish supper from Popsie’s, there is always something to do. Here are some of our favourite activities to do in Bramhope with our Clients:

Golden Acre Park in Bramhope

We love going for a walk around Golden Acre Park - perhaps not the 130 acres though! The level paths, plentiful benches and popular cafe make it a good walking route for people with mobility issues. On a summer’s day there is nothing better than having a stroll around the lake and watching the birds, followed by tea and a scone in the café!

Paul’s Pond and Breary Marsh in Bramhope

For those who are steady on their feet there is also Paul’s Pond, belonging to the Cookridge Hall estate.  If you are very lucky you may even, see a kingfisher!  Dug in the 1820s to provide ice and fish to the kitchens it was later named after William Paul who purchased the estate in 1890.  Look out for the fairy door trail and Breary Marsh.  To find the pond, park in the main car park on Otley Road and rather than walking left through the tunnel, head straight on – but do not attempt this if you are unsteady on your feet or in a wheelchair.

Bramhope Village Hall (also known as The Robert Craven Memorial Hall

On the second Sunday of every month, the village hall hosts the farmer’s market, keeping the people of Bramhope and beyond stocked up on fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, bread and meat.  The memorial hall also hosts a bridge club, yearly flower show and of course one of our favourites  - Care for a Cuppa.  Dementia Friendly Bramhope run Care for a Cuppa on the first Tuesday of every month, currently 1.30-3.30pm.  It’s a wonderful group which incorporates some light chair based exercise and of course a cup of Yorkshire tea.

You will also find a bowling green, car park, tennis courts and cricket ground close by.

Fish and Chips in Bramhope

Is it really Friday without a fish supper? Many of our clients would say not! Popsie’s in Bramhope is always a popular choice, serving traditional fish and chips for a feel-good Friday feast!

Taking a Dip with our Clients at Britannia Hotel, Bramhope

For exercise that’s gentler on the joints then we love going for a swim at the Britannia Hotel – you don’t have to stay overnight to use the pool, just pay a small charge and you can use the facilities! It’s great to have this on our doorstep and is often a lot quieter than going to a leisure centre. We are happy to help clients go for a swim providing they are safe to do so – as with all outings a full risk assessment is made beforehand.

About Bramhope, North Leeds

History of Bramhope, North Leeds

The name ‘Bramhope’ comes from old English and means ‘broom small valley’, the valley part being self-explanatory but the broom part being more of a mystery!

Bramhope is an old settlement and was mentioned in the Domesday Book.  It also has evidence of a Roman road nearby. Once used as grazing land for nearby monasteries in Saxon times, Bramhope is still a proud small village and has retained a strong sense of community.

There are several historic buildings in Bramhope including the Grade I, 17th century puritan chapel and the 17th and 18th century Smithy and Weaver’s cottage as well as the old School House.

Today’s Bramhope is a beautiful village with independent shops and café’s including the 18th century Fox and Hounds pub, The Corner Cup, The Village Bakery and The Bramhope Deli as well as Lily’s of Bramhope, a lovely independent florist.
