Care Heroes 2022

Dementia Action week is Alzheimer’s Society’s longest-running awareness campaign. Right at Home partnered with Alzheimer’s Society in 2019 and have been raising money to support vital research. As a network we aimed to raise over £40,000 during the first two years, and our current total in our third year of partnership is just over £65,000. To support Alzheimer’s Society, Right at Home Derby will be hosting a fundraising day consisting of cake sale, charity bbq, coffee morning on Friday 20th May 2022.  More information can be found at www.rightathome.co.uk/derby.

Act on Dementia

This year Alzheimer’s Society has chosen the theme ‘Act on Dementia’ for Dementia Action Week 2022. Diagnosis rates for Dementia have fallen for the first time in a decade and Alzheimer’s Society wanted to highlight the importance of recognising the signs and symptoms of dementia to offer their support, and improve the diagnosis process.

Did you know?

Whilst one in four people who died of Covid-19 had a diagnosis of dementia, there was little mention of the increased risk that Covid had to people with a dementia.
In less affluent areas of the UK and with particular ethnic groups, less than half the people with dementia actually receive a diagnosis.

It could therefore be the number of people who died of Covid-19 whilst having dementia, was significantly higher than the one in four officially recognised.

At a known cost of £26 Billion per year to the UK economy, and with billions in hidden additional soft costs such as ‘unpaid care’, we are facing a huge economic challenge to the UK

Right at Home Derby can help with an early diagnosis through our cognitive behaviour tests and digital care monitoring and our soon-to-be-released Dementia Support Programme.

Potential Symptoms of Dementia

  • Memory loss (memory loss is the symptom most associated with dementia)
  • Difficulty concentrating - (inability to stay focussed on tasks)
  • Finding it hard to carry out familiar daily tasks
  • Struggling to follow conversations or find the right word (sometimes this results in not engaging with others)
  • Being confused about time or place
  • Mood changes
