Brave the Shave (Macmillan Cancer Support) - Tina Shaves Grantley's Head to raise funds

Published: 06/07/2023

Right at Home Medway participates in Brave the Shave

Right at Home Medway swapped Home Care for Hairdressing and took to the clippers at our Gillingham office in Kent to raise awareness and funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. The ‘Brave the Shave’ challenge was initiated by Tina, Right at Home Medway’s Field Care Supervisor, who was motivated by her son’s battle with cancer and she wanted to show her support.

Inspired by her story, commitment and motivation, Grantley Lynch, owner of Right at Home Medway, joined Tina (pictured together) in undertaking the challenge - but this time with a twist, live on Facebook with Tina holding the clippers! The office team all came along in support and many of our CareGivers, families and friends joined us live online to witness the shave.

Tina reported “I really enjoyed the experience and found it easy to do. I had so much fun and enjoyed all the comments that the viewers had made. I would definitely do it again.”

To date Tina and Grantley have raised in excess of £600 for Macmillan Cancer Support, more than double her original £300 target and donations are still coming in.

Tina adds “I would like to thank everyone who donated to such a great cause, especially to Grantley who too Braved the Shave!”
You too can support Tina and Grantley by making a donation no matter how small to this very worthy cause here

Our sincere wish, is that Tina's son makes full and speedy recovery, we send him our very best wishes.  We also send our thoughts and best wishes to Tina and her family.  As our thoughts are with Tina and her family at this time, we also want to take a moment to also send our best wishes to all others living with cancer, going through treatment, and also their families at this time.

How to care for cancer patients at home

Caring for a family member or a person living with cancer can be a daunting task and one that may affect your daily lives and relationships. Suddenly, you will have many additional tasks, as well as keeping up with responsibilities in your own life too.

Although caring for a loved one can be very rewarding, the additional responsibilities can lead to emotional exhaustion. This is why it’s important to ask for care and support, for all of the family.

Our CarerGivers can provide advice for how to care for cancer patients when your homecare providers are not around. But the most important thing is often the emotional support you can offer the person you are caring for.
