A Life of Kindness, Dedication and Care
For over three years, we had the privilege of caring for Dr B — a truly remarkable woman who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a lovely lady, full of charm and life, whose warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit made her a joy to be around. She brought light into every interaction, and it was an honour for our team to support her and be part of her journey, helping her remain in the home she loved.
Dr B was also a deeply determined and accomplished individual. Not many women of her generation became doctors, yet she went on to run her own NHS GP practice in South London for more than 40 years and was still working into her 70s. Her dedication to caring for others defined her life, which made it a true privilege for us to care for her in return. Being entrusted with someone’s care is a responsibility we never take lightly, and her story is a powerful reminder of why what we do matters so much.
We were deeply saddened to learn of her sudden passing. Losing someone we have cared for is never easy, and Dr B will always be remembered fondly and with great respect by our entire team.
A Heartfelt Tribute from Her Family
During this difficult time, we were incredibly touched to receive a message from her son, Damian. His words were not only kind, but a powerful reflection of the care, compassion, and connection that meant so much to Dr B — and to us:
“This is just a short message to thank you and all your wonderful team. My mother was a very determined person. Not many women of her generation became doctors. She ran her own NHS GP practice in South London for more than 40 years and was still working in her 70s.
I cannot begin to tell you how many ‘little’ everyday things Sue and Anne and the team did for my mother; but these little things were all such an important part of the care – even singing Irish songs with her. For every issue that arose, Sue and Anne would work with us to find a solution. And we always did.”
Receiving such a thoughtful and generous message meant a great deal to all of us. It is especially moving to hear how the small, everyday moments — the companionship, the laughter, and the teamwork — made such a meaningful difference.
"She was adamant that she would always live in her own home. Right at Home made that possible. Every time I saw her it was obvious how happy and well looked after she was. Everything I saw about the care provided went far beyond just duty. It was care with respect and love."
– Son of our wonderful client Dr B
We are truly grateful to her family for sharing these words with us, and for allowing us to be part of Dr B’s life and legacy. Our thoughts remain with them during this time. Dr B will always hold a special place in our hearts.
