Hearing About Parkinson’s from Personal Experience

One of the most powerful parts of the afternoon was hearing from the Chair of Parkinson’s SKE, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 10 years ago.

His personal experience brought the conversation to life. Despite the challenges that can come with Parkinson’s, he certainly doesn’t let his diagnosis slow him down! Hearing directly from someone living with the condition gave everyone a valuable insight into what life with Parkinson’s can look like, while also highlighting the importance of staying active, connected and supported.

We also heard about some of the fantastic services and resources available through Parkinson’s UK, including speech therapy, physical support and therapy, as well as local support groups.

The Importance of Support Groups

Having personally attended Parkinson’s support groups, I am a huge believer in the difference they can make.

Living with Parkinson’s doesn't only affect the person who has received the diagnosis. It can have an enormous impact on partners, family members, friends and those providing care and support.

That is why having somewhere to meet people who understand, share experiences, ask questions and simply talk can be so valuable.

The support available can play an important role in both physical and mental wellbeing, helping individuals living with Parkinson’s and their families feel better informed, more connected and, importantly, less alone.

At Right at Home, we see first-hand just how important the right support can be in helping people continue to live safely, confidently and independently while doing the things that matter to them.

“As always, it was a pleasure to join Arthur, supporting his local community and raising awareness for Parkinson's and those living with the condition. Under the clever guise of "technical support" I was blown away by the knowledge and personal experience that Arthur possess'. We will continue to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson's UK, and strive towards to hope that there will be a cure in 2050!
