An exciting new chapter!

We were delighted to attend the official grand opening of Sight for Surrey's new hub in Ashtead, marking an exciting milestone for a charity that has been transforming lives across Surrey for many years.

The event brought together local organisations, supporters and community partners to celebrate the opening of this fantastic new facility, which will provide an accessible and welcoming space for people living with sensory loss and other disabilities.

Our connection with Sight for Surrey began when we met Kathy at a local networking event. It quickly became clear that our organisations share the same passion for empowering people to live independently and enjoy the best possible quality of life. Since then, we've been excited to begin building a strong partnership and look forward to working together to support more people across Surrey.

Sight for Surrey is an independent charity that provides life-changing support for people who are blind, partially sighted, Deaf, hard of hearing, living with dual sensory loss, dementia and other disabilities.

Supporting Independence

Their services include specialist rehabilitation, practical advice, emotional support, social groups, technology guidance, information for families and carers, and opportunities for people to remain active and connected within their communities. Their work helps people of all ages gain confidence, maintain independence and navigate everyday life with greater ease.

At Right at Home, we understand that maintaining independence is about much more than receiving care. It's about having access to the right support, trusted advice and a network of organisations that work together to help people continue living safely and happily in their own homes.

Working alongside charities such as Sight for Surrey allows us to offer even more holistic support to the individuals and families we care for, ensuring they have access to specialist services whenever they need them.

One of the many ways technology is helping people with sight loss is through Be My Eyes, a free mobile app that connects people who are blind or have low vision with sighted volunteers through live video calls. The app is completely free to use, both for people requesting support and for volunteers. Anyone with a smartphone can sign up to become a volunteer, making it an easy way for people to give back to their community by offering just a few minutes of their time when a call comes through.

"What a wonderful day! The sun was shining and it was lovely to walk around their new hub and see the wonderful equipment that they use to support the community. I'm really looking forward to continuing our work together!"
