Alastair Shanks

Managing Director & Business Owner

Our Managing Director and business owner Alastair Shanks joined the Right at Home network in 2012, opening his first office in Farnham which was the 7th Right at Home office in the UK.

His passion for supporting elderly people and people living with dementia to live well in the community has seen his business and reputation of excellent service grow over the years.

Alastair started his career with Unilever, where he spent some time working in Italy, after which he returned to the UK to run a family business. After selling up ahead of the credit crunch, he decided he wanted to start his own business in the local community and was successful in joining the growing team of Right at Home local owner/operators.

“Quality of service has always been important to me,” Alastair explains, “but with home care it really means more than ever. I am determined that our team should give the best care across Alton, Hindhead and Bordon and in order to do that we need the best Care Assistants. We put a lot of effort into recruiting and keeping the best people and in making Right at Home a great place to work so that we hang on to them! I am so proud of my team, they are all fantastic from the office staff to the CareGivers.

“It is a hugely rewarding thing to be doing; we really do make a huge difference to people’s lives, whether that is by providing full-time, live in care for someone with advancing dementia or assisting an older person to stay independent by helping with their shopping once a week.”

In 2019 Alastair opened his second office in Bordon with the support of his Registered Manager Sara and Care Manager Claire. “It is hugely exciting to be opening a second office and takes me back a few years to the excitement of starting up the business. Our Care Manager Claire who will be based full time in Bordon has a real passion for the area and for making sure that the clients we support in the area have the same, wonderful Right at Home service that we have built our reputation upon.”
