Meet Mandy, Senior Carer at Right at Home North Leeds, Otley and Horsforth
A compassionate professional with over 40 years of nursing experience
Before joining the team at Right at Home North Leeds, Otley and Horsforth, Mandy worked as a Registered Nurse for the NHS for an incredible 43 years. During this time, she specialised in Oncology for 18 years, completing numerous courses in Oncology, Palliative Care and End-of-Life Care. Mandy also gained qualifications in Teaching and Assessing - experience that now helps her support and guide fellow carers in her current role.
After leaving Oncology, Mandy joined the District Nursing Team, working first in South Leeds and later in Horsforth. She went on to become a Joint Care Manager, working closely with Social Services, before moving into a Health Case Manager role.
When the Covid pandemic hit, working from home proved challenging for someone who thrives on teamwork and hands-on care. Mandy was redeployed to the Neighbourhood Team, where she rediscovered her love of working directly with people. After two years of bank nursing, she retired - but soon realised she missed caring for others and decided to join the Right at Home Horsforth family and as she says - “the rest is history!”

Why Senior Carer, Mandy, Loves Working for Right at Home North Leeds, Otley and Horsforth
Mandy describes Right at Home North Leeds, Otley and Horsforth as "Caring, Supportive, and Motivated" - three words that perfectly capture the team spirit she values so much.
Mandy | Senior Carer"I enjoy working for Right at Home North Leeds, Otley and Horsforth because I’m still able to care for people - something I’ve always been passionate about. I feel proud to help clients remain independent in their own homes. The management in Horsforth is so supportive, and our carers genuinely care about the people they visit."
A Day in the Life of a Senior Carer
A typical day for Mandy involves supporting clients within their homes - helping with personal care, preparing meals, assisting with medication, and ensuring each client’s wellbeing. As a Senior Carer, Mandy also carries out observational visits with carers, supervision meetings at the Horsforth office with support workers and carers, on-call duties at weekends, and client review meetings in person and on the phone, to ensure the highest standards of care are maintained.
The best advice Mandy ever received as a newly qualified nurse still guides her today:

A Senior Carer's Life Outside of Work
When she’s not caring for clients, Mandy enjoys walking her dog, listening to music, and spending time with her family and friends. She also loves to travel and is part of a family-run charity called Pink Events that raises money for Cancer Research UK and the Breast Unit at St James’ Hospital through events held throughout the year. To date they have raised nearly £500,000 - an absolutely incredible achievement! If you would like to make a difference you can donate here.
A fun fact? Mandy is a qualified dog groomer - a hidden talent most people don’t know about!
If stranded on a desert island, Mandy says she’d bring music “to keep me sane” (we're guessing Rod Stewart), skincare products “to stop my skin from shrivelling”, and a nice bottle of rosé wine - “just because I could” (don't forget the corkscrew Mandy!)
