Our Big Green Picnic in Lymm – A Day to Remember
At Right at Home Lymm and Warrington South, we recently had the pleasure of hosting a truly heartwarming event – our dementia-friendly Big Green Picnic, bringing together clients, carers, families, and members of our local community for a summer afternoon full of connection, creativity, and care.
Held on Saturday 16 August at Oughtrington Community Centre, the event formed part of a nationwide initiative by Dementia Adventure, focused on helping people living with dementia enjoy the outdoors in a safe and welcoming environment. For us, it was a beautiful opportunity to do what we love most – supporting our clients not just through care, but through meaningful, joyful experiences.
We filled the day with a wide range of nature-inspired, dementia-friendly activities, including:
Rock painting (with creations hidden around Lymm for others to find)
Bird feeder making to support local wildlife
Nature palettes made with leaves, petals, and other natural materials and sensory trays and baskets to engage touch and smell
Music by Tony Crotty, a classically trained guitarist who also shared his talents by teaching guests to play the Irish drum.
Lawn games for children to enjoy active outdoor play
Our super talented Care Ambassador Wioletta made these wonderful Right at Home cakes!
The feedback we received from our guests meant the world to us:
“Lovely way to spend a summer afternoon. The food was delicious. The music was very professional and entertaining. Thank you Right at Home very much.”— Stella and Rod
“Lovely way to spend a day with lovely people.”— Teresa
“Words fail me except one… it was a LOVELY afternoon!”— David
We were also incredibly grateful for the generous support from local businesses listed below, who donated prizes to help us raise funds for Dementia Adventure. We are delighted to have raised £64.
- Oughtrington Community Centre – for donating the beautiful outdoor space
- The Card Gallery, Stockton Heath – for a River Walk jigsaw puzzle
- E. Smith & Co., Lymm – for a bird feeder and bird bath set
- Pure, Stockton Heath – for a £25 gift voucher
- Tesco, Grappenhall – for donating a bottle of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey
- And a big thank you to those who supported anonymously – your kindness didn’t go unnoticed.
Clare Coke | Care Director"This event was all about bringing people together and creating a space where everyone felt welcome – especially those living with dementia and their loved ones. We’re proud to support our clients not just through our day-to-day care, but by offering moments like this where they can connect, relax, and simply enjoy life."
Although National Picnic Week and Care Home Open Week took place in June, we chose to host our event later in the summer to suit our schedule – and we’re so glad we did. It was a truly memorable afternoon, full of smiles, laughter, and the kind of connection that makes our community so special.
