What is Adult Social Care?

  • Adult social care refers to a varied range of professional services that aim to provide help and care for those over the age of 18, including older people, adults with disabilities and adults living with physical or mental illness.

  • Working in Adult Social Care provides great job security with a host of career progression and opportunities for development

  • For us at Right at Home Portsmouth, we provide high quality Homecare services which help our clients to: maintain their dignity and independence, help them achieve personal goals whilst building long-lasting and meaningful relationships and remain in their own homes for as long as possible

Why should I consider a career in care?

Right at Home Portsmouth's Office Team

People choose a career in care for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Flexible shift patterns. These can be especially beneficial for parents with young children, students and retirees, our shift patterns range from early morning right up to late evening.

  • A role in care is extremely rewarding, quite often it’s what our CareGivers say is their favourite aspect to their job role. You meet clients from all walks of life and make a true positive impact to their daily lives.

  • There is great job security in care.

  • The chance to meet new people and build wonderful and meaningful friendships.

Why should I consider a career in care with Right at Home Portsmouth?

  • We are particularly passionate about progressing and developing our CareGivers within the business. As of 2021, we have a Team Leader development programme in place where CareGivers train and develop their skills to qualify for a more senior role within the business. There are also opportunities to achieve qualifications with us. For example, our former Care Coordinator is currently completing her level 5 in to become a Registered Manager.

  • We have excellent rates of pay. We pay extra for weekend work and bank holidays.

  • Employee Wellbeing is often an afterthought for most businesses but for us it’s at the forefront of what we do. Jane Sim is our Wellbeing manager and offers in-house counselling support for all employees. Our carers spend so much of their time looking after others, we owe it to them to have infrastructure in place to support them as much as possible.

  • We offer flexible shift patterns with a variety of hours. 9-5 desk jobs aren’t suitable for everyone’s way of life and if this sounds like you, care is a great option to fit around children and any other commitments you may have.

  • Our CareGivers deserve reward and recognition for their great work. We have a reliability bonus scheme where CareGivers can earn up to £25 pound a month. We also have a £50 monthly draw for CareGivers who pick up extra calls outside their availability.

What responsibilities and duties will I have?

It’s important to note that in care, no day looks the same and there’s great variety in how we support our clients. Our clients are individuals and as such we tailor our care to suit them and their needs at the times they wish. No matter what your work day looks like with us, all roles are unified in improving the lives of our clients and families. To give you an idea, here are a few examples:

  • Companionship

  • Personal care – including washing and dressing

  • Administering medication
