Ageing Well with Right at Home Arts for the Mind

Published: 23/01/2026

At Right at Home Barnet & Edgware, we believe that ageing well is about much more than physical health. It’s about staying connected, feeling valued, and having opportunities to express yourself and enjoy meaningful moments with others.

That belief is at the heart of Arts for the Mind — our free creative wellbeing sessions designed to support connection, confidence, and mental wellbeing within our local community.

What Is Arts for the Mind?

Arts for the Mind is a relaxed, welcoming creative session open to adults aged 55+, hosted in familiar community spaces and guided by a professional artist.

There’s no pressure, no expectation, and no need for any previous artistic experience. Instead, the focus is on:

  • Enjoying the creative process

  • Gently stimulating the mind

  • Encouraging conversation and connection

  • Supporting overall wellbeing in later life

Activities may include simple crafts, creative making, themed projects, or mindful art exercises — all designed to be accessible, enjoyable, and confidence-building.

Held in the Heart of the Community

We’re proud to host Arts for the Mind sessions at two trusted local venues:

  • Edgware Library

  • Chipping Barnet Library

Libraries are central, welcoming spaces that many people already know and feel comfortable visiting. By holding sessions here, we aim to make creative wellbeing easy to access and part of everyday community life.

Each session brings together local residents in a friendly, inclusive environment where people can relax, chat, and enjoy something positive together.

Who Are the Sessions For?

Arts for the Mind is suitable for:

  • Older adults who want to stay mentally active

  • People looking for gentle, enjoyable social interaction

  • Those who enjoy creativity, conversation, or trying something new

  • Anyone interested in supporting their wellbeing as they age

The sessions are not clinical or formal. They are about connection, enjoyment, and feeling good in the moment.

Why Creative Wellbeing Matters as We Age

Research and experience show that creative activities can:

  • Boost mood and confidence

  • Encourage social interaction

  • Support focus and cognitive engagement

  • Reduce feelings of isolation

But just as importantly, creativity offers joy. It creates space to laugh, share stories, and feel part of something — all of which are essential to ageing well.

Our Commitment to Ageing Well

Arts for the Mind reflects Right at Home Barnet & Edgware’s wider commitment to supporting people to live well, independently, and with purpose.

Whether through community initiatives like these sessions or through personalised care at home, our focus is always on the whole person — wellbeing, dignity, and quality of life.
