Maintaining a Life She Loves

Mrs Jones, a lady in her nineties, greets her mornings with breakfast at home, a walk to her favourite local coffee shop for something sweet, and — whenever she can manage it — a visit to her Danish church, close to Spitalfields Market. She has a warm personality, a wonderful sense of humour, and a quiet determination to keep living life on her own terms.

Today, she does all of this with confidence, laughter, and the support of a Carer she has come to know and trust.

How Right at Home Central London Helped

We introduced a personalised one-hour visit each morning, built around Mrs Jones's own routine rather than the other way around. Every visit began with preparing the bathroom to make sure it was safe, before supporting Mrs Jones with showering, drying, moisturising, and dressing — always encouraging her to choose her own clothes and do as much for herself as she could. Breakfast was prepared together, and independence was promoted in every task, however small.

Beyond personal care, her Carer checked that her emergency alarm and devices were working, carried out safety checks around the home, and monitored her blood pressure when needed. Any concerns were shared promptly with the Right at Home office, who liaised directly with Mrs Jones's GP about her medication — so nothing was missed and nothing was left to chance. And because staying connected to her community mattered just as much as staying safe, we supported Mrs Jones's social life too, including helping her continue attending church.

Doreen, Mrs Jones's Carer, has been central to this Care & Support Plan — building the kind of relationship that turns a care visit into something Mrs Jones genuinely looks forward to.

"It has been a privilege supporting Mrs Jones to remain independent in her own home. Building a trusting relationship has allowed us to provide care that respects her dignity while encouraging her to continue doing as much as possible for herself. Seeing her confidence grow and knowing her family feel reassured has been incredibly rewarding."

The Difference Today

The nervousness Mrs Jones once felt about accepting help has given way to real trust. She's now able to carry out much of her personal care with only minimal assistance, and she feels safe, comfortable, and at home with the people supporting her. She confidently makes her way to her local coffee shop, continues attending her Danish church, and enjoys the regular companionship and laughter that come with her daily visits.

The proactive monitoring of her blood pressure has also made a real difference — any concerns are picked up early and communicated straight to her GP for review, giving her family one less thing to worry about. For Mrs Jones's family, that peace of mind is everything: knowing she is supported by professional Carers who prioritise her dignity, her independence, and her wellbeing, every single day.

"I am very grateful for Right at Home's intervention. I enjoy the company and feel safe and secure knowing the carers have medical experience. Everyone is helpful, but I really do appreciate that my Carers have a great sense of humour — they brighten my day!"
