Frequently Asked Questions

What is end-of-life care?

End-of-life care is support for people during the last months or years of their life. End-of-life care can have many aims including pain management, comfort, dignity, and emotional support.

Each care plan is personal to you depending on what you need support with in order to live life how you choose during this sensitive time.

Your Care & Support Plan can include:

  • Medical Needs: Including medication support, pain management, and liaising with healthcare teams
  • Daily Living: Personal care and hygiene, meal preparation and nutrition, housekeeping
  • Mental and Emotional Wellbeing: Companionship and emotional support for you and your family during a difficult time
When is it time to start end-of-life care?

It can be difficult to predict when someone is likely to pass, but end-of-life care is typically considered to be for those in the last 12 months of life. However, it does vary so end-of-life care should begin when it is needed. If you or your loved one has unmet needs or could benefit from a Carer to make life smoother or more comfortable, it’s a good idea to start exploring care options.

End-of-life care may last a few days, a few months or even a few years. Whether you require end-of-life care services for a short time or are considering a longer-term care plan, we design your support around you.

Can people receive end-of-life care at home?

Yes. We can offer personalised support and one-on-one attention for those who wish to stay at home for end-of-life care. Many people prefer to stay at home and receive end-of-life care as this is where they feel most comfortable and can be surrounded by loved ones and treasured memories.

Is end-of-life care suitable for people with cancer?

Absolutely. Our Carers are trained to support with a range of care requirements, effectively and safely. It isn’t always necessary to move into a nursing home or healthcare environment and, depending on your health needs, you may be able to fulfil your preference for being at home. Ask your GP what kind of services are available locally, and we are also happy to discuss how we can support you at home with cancer care and other types of care services such as personal care, companionship, and light housekeeping.

What is the difference between palliative and end-of-life care?

Palliative care and end-of-life care are often used interchangeably. The main difference is that palliative care can be given at any stage of a terminal illness and many people receive palliative symptom management for years.

Receiving palliative care is a big part of our end-of-life care service. This includes managing the physical aspects of a dying person’s condition, such as pain and other symptoms. Our aim is always to make our Clients as comfortable as possible and ensure their time is spent how they choose.

How much does end-of-life care cost in Central London?

Costs vary depending on the level of support you need. We’ll always make sure your care offers great value and is flexible enough to be adjusted at short notice. Because our plans are all created with you in mind, please get in touch to discuss your care needs — we can provide guidance on the cost of care.

You may also be eligible for support from Westminster City Council, depending on your financial circumstances and care needs. We’re happy to help you understand what funding options might be available.
