Golden Cinema: More Than Just a Film
At Right at Home East Lancs, we believe that supporting people to live well is about more than what happens within the home. It is about helping people stay connected, enjoy meaningful experiences and remain an active part of their local community.
Our monthly Golden Cinema afternoons at The Old Grammar School Community Centre in Whalley are a wonderful example of this in action, bringing people together from across Ribble Valley, Blackburn and Hyndburn for an afternoon of friendship, entertainment and connection.
While enjoying a film is at the heart of Golden Cinema, each month offers an opportunity to do much more. By working alongside local organisations and services, we can create welcoming spaces where people can socialise, learn something new and discover resources that may benefit them.

Creating Opportunities for Connection
Having regular opportunities to get out, meet others and take part in activities can make a real difference to people's wellbeing.
Golden Cinema provides a relaxed environment where attendees can enjoy a film, share refreshments, catch up with familiar faces and make new connections.
Sometimes, it is the simplest things that have the greatest impact — a conversation over a cup of tea, a shared laugh or simply knowing there is somewhere friendly to go each month.
For those receiving care at home, opportunities to take part in activities within their local community can be particularly valuable. They can provide something to look forward to while encouraging social interaction and helping people maintain important connections outside the home.

Connecting Our Community with Local Services
A key part of our community work is connecting people with organisations that provide valuable information and advice.
At our recent Golden Cinema, we welcomed Sophie and Caroline from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, who shared practical advice on fire safety in the home, including how to access a free home fire safety check.
They also highlighted additional support for people living with dementia and gave attendees the opportunity to ask questions in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

The Impact Goes Beyond the Event
The impact of community is not always easy to measure.
Sometimes it is a new friendship. Sometimes it is the confidence to ask a question. It might be discovering a local service, learning something that could make a home safer, or simply having an enjoyable afternoon surrounded by other people.

Our Golden Cinema afternoons combine entertainment, social connection and access to useful information, creating an experience that can have an impact long after the film has finished.
At Right at Home East Lancs, our approach is centred on helping people live fulfilling and independent lives, whether they are receiving support in their own home or taking part in activities within the wider community.

Our recent afternoon with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and Modern Mobility is a great example of how collaboration can bring additional value to a community event — combining an enjoyable social occasion with information and advice that can make a genuine difference.
