Supporting Mental Health Through Community Engagement

Recognising Mental Health Awareness Week | May 12–18, 2025
This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re proud to support this year’s important theme: “Community.”
Being part of a safe, supportive community is essential to our mental well-being—and for older people in particular, staying connected can help reduce feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression.
At Right at Home Welwyn, Hatfield & St Albans, we understand that isolation can have a deep impact on the mental health of older adults, especially those who live alone. That’s why we focus not just on care, but on connection—helping our clients stay active, engaged, and part of the world around them.
How We Support Mental Health Through Community
Our CareGivers are dedicated to more than just physical assistance — they’re trusted companions, bringing friendship and connection into every visit. Here’s how we make a difference:
- Encouraging Social Engagement: We help clients keep in touch with loved ones and join in with local events like VE Day celebrations or open days at the Barn Theatre, Welwyn Garden City.
- Facilitating Outdoor Activities: Whether it’s a walk around Stanborough Park or a chat over coffee at a local café, we encourage time outside, which lifts mood and boosts confidence.
- Promoting Hobbies and Interests: We support activities such as gardening, crafts or reading—anything that brings joy and a sense of purpose.
- Providing Emotional Support: Sometimes just being there to listen is what matters most. Our CareGivers offer comfort, conversation, and genuine companionship.

Building a Supportive Community—Together
This week, we invite you to reflect on how small actions can make a big difference. Whether you're a family member, friend or neighbour, you can help by:
- Reaching Out: A phone call or friendly visit can brighten someone’s day.
- Encouraging Participation: Include older loved ones in outings and activities.
- Being Present: A listening ear can ease loneliness and show someone they matter.
At Right at Home, we’re committed to helping older adults live well—surrounded by care, compassion, and community.
If you or someone you know could benefit from our support, we’re here to help, just give us a call or complete the form and we’ll ring you at a convenient time
