Year end – time for an ‘elf’ assessment

When I first started the business in the Summer of 2016, I didn’t for one moment foresee myself dressing up as an elf or playing Christmas carols on a ukulele whilst hosting an afternoon tea. But then I also never expected to come across some of the kindest, most genuine, selfless people that I’ve ever worked with.

Day-in day-out our CareGivers do extraordinary things, which have never ceased to amaze me. How about some of these examples; taking clients’ clothing and curtains home to mend and tailor them in their spare time; buying a pedicure set and cakes to give a client who was feeling under the weather an impromptu Spa Day; driving a client on a 4 hour round trip to pick up a new dog; taking a lonely client to the cinema to watch Bohemian Rhapsody; supporting a client throughout the birth of her first child. Believe me, these are just the tip of an extremely large iceberg!

The journey so far has been an incredibly rewarding one. This year we had a very close call in achieving an overall ‘Outstanding’ rating with the CQC (we were given an ‘Outstanding’ in the Caring aspect, but didn’t quite get the second rating we needed, despite indications from the inspector that it was being seriously considered in the Safe, Responsive and Well Led aspects!). See the report here.

We maintain an amazing 9.9 out of 10 average review score on the website Homecare.co.uk. In an independent survey in January we were told that 100% of our CareGivers and clients would recommend us. These are important benchmarks as they are a barometer of what people genuinely think of us.

In 2017 we won a national award from Right At Home UK as the best ‘start-up’ business. A little further down the road and we have developed an extremely strong infrastructure of very talented office staff to support our CareGivers, ensuring we grow steadily and sensibly in the future, whilst maintaining the high standards and friendly culture which we have already become associated with.

In the Mid Sussex community we have forged excellent working relationships with many health care professionals, who appreciate the work we are doing and who trust that we will continue to deliver consistently high levels of care to vulnerable people in Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and the surrounding area.

We now employ nearly 50 people and look after over 60 vulnerable adults in Mid Sussex, and within the next couple of years there is every chance that the company will double in size. It was always my ambition to have a business of which I can be proud, and just two years in I already feel very proud of my team, of what we have achieved and where we are heading.

Here’s to an even happier and perhaps even ‘elfier’ 2019!
