Mental Health Awareness Week 2025: Celebrating Community
This year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness Week - Community - couldn’t be more fitting for us.
At Right at Home Portsmouth, community is more than just a word - it’s the heart of everything we do. In the world of home care, it’s the quiet strength behind every visit, the encouragement passed between colleagues, and the foundation that keeps us all going on the hard days.
Why Community Matters in Home Care
Caring for others takes resilience, empathy, and deep emotional strength and no one can do it alone.
For our team, community means:
-
Supporting each other during challenging shifts
-
Laughing together during lighter moments
-
Listening when someone needs to talk
-
Showing up - not just for our clients, but for one another
That shared support makes a huge difference in our wellbeing, especially mental health. We wanted to honour that this Mental Health Awareness Week.
Our Mental Health Drop-In Day
To mark the occasion, we created a calm, welcoming space in the office for our team to unwind, recharge, and connect. Here's what we included:
Comforting Refreshments
Herbal teas, freshly brewed coffee, and some delicious snacks were on hand for a cosy and calming break.
Aromatherapy Atmosphere
An aromatherapy diffuser filled the room with soothing scents, creating a peaceful, grounding environment.
Goodie Bags of Appreciation
Each team member received a small goodie bag as a thank-you for their continued compassion and hard work.
The Positive Postcard Wall
Team members wrote anonymous, heartfelt notes to each other expressing appreciation, encouragement, and kindness. The wall quickly filled with beautiful messages that reminded us how valued every person is.
Taking It Further: Training for Long-Term Impact
Inspired by the spirit of the week, our Marketing & Recruitment Coordinator, Niamh, and Care Operations Manager, Emma, have begun studying a Level 2 course in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace.
This is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure that our team feels supported - not just during awareness campaigns, but every day. By equipping our leaders with the tools and knowledge to respond to mental health challenges, we’re building a stronger, more compassionate workplace for everyone.
A Small Gesture, a Big Impact
Mental health support doesn’t always have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s the smallest gestures: a kind word, a handwritten note, a moment to pause, that make the biggest difference.
This drop-in day was a powerful reminder that mental wellbeing grows in the spaces between us: in everyday acts of kindness, in listening, and in knowing that you are part of something bigger.
Thank You to Our Incredible Team
To our care team - thank you. You show up every day not just with professionalism, but with kindness and heart. You support our clients with compassion, and you lift each other up with the same care.
We’re proud of the community we’ve built here at Right at Home Portsmouth - one where mental wellbeing matters, and where everyone belongs.
Together, we thrive.
